Did Hue Jackson not get a second chance? Jim Caldwell? Herm Edwards? How many second chances did Marvin Lewis get with the Bengals when he should’ve been fired? Mike Tomlin might have the longest leash in the NFL. Guy hasn’t won shit in quite some time and his seat isn’t even a little warm. Lovie Smith got almost a decade with the Bears despite very little to show for it. Raheem Morris, Leslie Frazier, Brian Flores, Todd Bowles etc. were getting multiple interviews despite unsuccessful stints at HC. Just because they haven’t been hired yet doesn’t mean they will never get a second chance. Mike McCarthy has a ****ing SB ring. Of course he got a second chance. How many of those black HCs that didn’t get one have a SB ring? Josh McDaniels waited almost a decade before getting another chance. Every one of those guys you listed is a QB coach which we’ve already established is more likely to be white. The modern NFL has a thing for QB coaches. They’re mostly white, like QBs are mostly white. This isn’t rocket science, or racism. Also, why can’t any of you explain how there’s been quite a few new black GMs over the last couple years, and none of them have chosen a black HC? Are they racist? All of these great black coaches not getting an opportunity, yet they don’t hire them? What’s up with that? We know for a fact that Poles and Kwesi are making those decisions themselves. And it’s amazing that we just keep coming back to 1 guy that is supposedly beating treated unfairly.
I asked for a list and every single other name you provided is a young up and coming coach that will almost certainly get a shot. You talk like there are several guys like EB, yet he’s really the only example you, Flores, the media, or anybody else pushing this narrative has. There are clearly multiple reasons EB is not a HC. It’s not just his history. Like I’ve said, he’s a RB specialist. What good is a RB specialist in today’s NFL? The NFL doesn’t value RBs yet you are shocked that they don’t value RB coaches? It’s amazing that you understand the NFL wants QB coaches, yet you don’t understand why they aren’t lining up to give EB a HCing shot. People are completely incapable of thinking critically when they put narrative about all else. This thread is the epitome of that. |

When the Rooney was first introduced the excuse about not having enough minority head coaches was that to be a head coach you had to have experience as a DC or OC. Then there was a slow trend to promoting minorities to those positions.
Now the excuse/trend (use whichever word you want) is, well you have to a QB coach to be a head coach. The problem is that there were maybe 2 black QB coaches in the league last year - Indy and Miami. I assume Caldwell is out in Miami, leaving on Brady. So, the current pipeline following the latest trend (and the NFL is a copycat league) doesn't look promising for future minority head coaching candidates.
