"70% of the league playerbase is black so why is the percentage of black coaches so low?"
Right, guys that netted > $500,000 as a pro player after 3 to 4 years as a technically unpaid college player will be jumping at the opportunity to make significantly less pay and put in more hours as a coach than they ever did as a compensated player to begin the process of moving up the coaching ladder.

How much effort do people put into math that’s so ****ing simple. To think out of the ginormous pool of experienced ncaa players , many of whom are captains, only ONE is good enough to coach in the nfl. How many justifications to prove a simple fact. |

Should a person even have to play college ball to get into football coaching? I would argue that he shouldn't. It sure helps to play lower levels like Pop Warner, High school and college but if someone is really interested in football they can pick up a great understanding of the game without playing. A large percentage of NFL coaches started off coaching at lower levels or in the NFL in some very lucky case making very little money and working long hours. White people on average have more wealth so a higher percentage of them can afford to do this. We never hear the names but there are tons of white lifers in the college/NFL ranks that never make it above NFL positional coach and they only get that job if they are lucky. If their spouses make a lot of money or they come from money, they will survive fine but if that is not the case which it is for many black men, they probably sooner or later need to get into a different field that pays more at the entry level. |

Now add in that half of ncaa players and 2/3 of nfl players are black. Playing football isn’t a pre req for coaching. But it should give an advantage or at least they have a leg up from the average person because they know Xs and Os. Many of them were captains because they were recognized as leaders. Sure, this pool consists of plenty of white people. But half of it is also black and even higher at the pro level. Again, that doesn’t mean 50% of coaches need to be black. But we should recognize how ludicrous it is that ONE is way too few and doesn’t make much sense. |

You also look at the % of college coaches because vast majority of NFL head coaches did not start out at the NFL level. They put in several years in college as coaches. NFL teams when hiring low level coaches seem to look for people with experience in hiring. That experience is usually people coached at the NFL level or in the college ranks. You want to pretend the pool is players when the hirings usually is people with some type of coaching experience. Last edited by Shields68; 02-05-2022 at 07:55 AM.. |

Carr, are you gay for Whitlock or something? Can I call him fat? Is that acceptable to you?

I would say college suffers from the same diversity issue. And the nfl especially has an issue with nepotism. Shanahan and mcvays became nfl assistants pretty much right out of college because of their Dads. One of the quickest ways on to a roster has been quality control and historically those are very often nepotism hires. It does seem the nfl is finally doing a better job of that. The chiefs themselves now have two black nfl players and Braden who has minimal college experience. As I’ve said before I think other teams are finally starting to do it too and it’s paying dividends. Guys like demeco Ryans, leftwich and Duce Staley walked in with almost no assistant coaching experience. And Ryans is a legitimately excellent candidate. But it goes without saying the lack of interesting candidates between 40-50 is a reflection of the nfl not doing nearly enough. And it probably begins with the hiring decisions they make at the bottom of their staff. The ultimate goal is that there is quality talent, not forced hires. I think black coordinators have shown especially over the past year or two that they can shine once given an opportunity. |

He only "nailed it" if you think Flores' end game is just thinking about himself. He's trying to affect change.

![]() ![]() Imagine being this naive/dumb. Yea, Flores is doing this for all of the black coaches/FO members! That’s why he’s taking down the one owner that has given more black people opportunities in high level positions than any other! Not to mention, accusing that same owner of racism! ![]() |

Why else is he doing this? He’s expecting to earn more money in the lawsuit than he could make in being a head coach for a couple years? There’s no way he’ll make that much if he does actually win or get a settlement |
