Tyrann Mathieu reiterates he wants to stay in Kansas City at NFL Honors
Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu — a nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award — joined NFL Network on the red carpet ahead of the NFL Honors in Los Angeles. Mathieu is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after three seasons in Kansas City.

“Obviously, the hope and the dream is to continue to be a Kansas City Chief,” said Mathieu. “We created so much history the last couple of years... I want to be in Kansas City, and I think everybody knows that.”

Hell no.

It is time to move on. He's not worth the money or headache anymore. He's getting older and he didn't have the best year last season. It's probably just going to get worse from here on out.

Why would he want to come back to a place w one of the most toxic fan in sports anyway? I mean his tweets sure didn't sound like a guy who wants to come back.

Time for both parties to move on.

The unknown is always scary, but this is an area on the field where the Chiefs can spend spend less and maybe get more. Lots of good safeties on the market. We need a buy like Bolton to stand up and be the vocal leader of this team on Defense.

Matthieu definitely wasn't the problem on defense, but the defense needs to get the offensive line treatment this offseason.

I'm definitely leaning more towards moving on, but if there is a defensive leader that I would want back, it would be Tyrann

No thanks. Appreciate what you did your first 2 seasons here. This past season was hit or miss. Need to get younger and hungrier at that position. Hate his social media antics, and making business decisions on a contract year is no bueno.

Spotrac (for what it's worth) says he's worth $14.8M. They also say the tag is projected to be about $13M for a safety. I'd offer him a 2 year deal somewhere around the tag price. Just give him a backloaded deal with an out, like they did with Clark. Costs less this year and allows them to move on once they are ready.
