Tyrann Mathieu reiterates he wants to stay in Kansas City at NFL Honors
Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu — a nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award — joined NFL Network on the red carpet ahead of the NFL Honors in Los Angeles. Mathieu is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after three seasons in Kansas City.

“Obviously, the hope and the dream is to continue to be a Kansas City Chief,” said Mathieu. “We created so much history the last couple of years... I want to be in Kansas City, and I think everybody knows that.”

I’m really torn on this. This year he hasn’t produced enough plays to make me excited about him staying whatsoever. On the other hand does he lift the morale of our defense that’s why they had a spell where three got significantly better?

This is where I'm at as well...Mostly because of his business decision not to hit anyone this season. I could live with all the Twitter diva stuff if he played like he did years 1 and 2 of his contract. He chose not to, so I hope Varch returns the favor.

Deal is, Id be hesitant on even signing him to a team friendly deal, because I'm not sure he would not let it bother him and negatively affect his play...Just best to thank him for what he did for KC and move on. Just my opinion.

I think the competition, or lack there of, is why they got significantly better.

For whatever reason I've never thought he was the holy grail like some people do. If he wants to be the top paid safety in the league, he can go somewhere else.

I'm not going to pretend I know why all the problems existed but those two Bengals games were identical. Whatever lessons we should have learned from the 1st loss - we didn't.

Another point is that it was very rare when we needed the D to step up and get a stop/turnover at a key point in the game did we actually get it.

If you have a solid team Pat doesn't have to play excellent every week to win. You need a QB to not play poorly but your defense should be contributing to wins.

I do think he maybe is seeing some writing on the wall that no team out there is going to give him Jamal Adams money.

Doesn't mean he's going to stay here or that we're going to offer him anything. Just that he's thinking, "Ok, the payday isn't coming... maybe I can still get these guys to keep me instead of having to sign with the Jaguars?"

Matthew was pretty emotional. You don't get that way when you think you're going to get the outcome you want.
