She wanted to “inspire” Chinese girls. A good thought and noble cause. She’s too naive to understand Chinese girls don’t have a choice.

I suspect it was just about the money. They made her an offer she and her team/family couldn't refuse. And she's far from the first athlete to make that choice when given the choice between two countries to represent at a national level.
