****Official Rams vs Bengals Super Bowl game thread****

Chiefs should have been in the Superbowl but oh well! I am rooting for the Bengals since Bengals have been a terrible franchise for so long, it would nice to see Bengals finally win it all

Yeah we can’t rely on him coming back any time soon. If he does, great. Not holding my breath though.

I’m fine with another 1-year vet, re-signing Wylie, and drafting one in the mid-late rounds.

I think advocating for a defense as cohesive and intelligent as the Bengals is a realistic ask. We have too many offensive weapons to realistically wish for unbeatable superstars all over the squad, but to see a squad that responds to conditions so quickly and uniformly should inspire our franchise to reverse engineer some of that shit.

They don't have superstars, and one of their corners is among the bigger doofuses in the entire league, but they set a plan and execute, whether it's a passing leviathan like the Chiefs or a determined running attack like the Rams, they find the scheme to be effective in the moment.

Our D showed flashes of being on the cusp mid-season, impressively so for a period, but by the playoffs they were mediocre Cinderalla sisters still, leaning on the might of Mahomes to pull everything out of the fire instead of just executing their job.

Yep.

The biggest reason the Chiefs defense struggles is because they put all their $$$ in the defensive line and STILL can't get pressure when it's needed.

They need to focus on building a good defense across the board, focus on mitigating weak links instead of star power.

Discipline and execution would go a long way towards making this defense better and that starts with getting good, solid players and not overspending for guys like Frank Clark.

Multiple times he had open guys while in the pocket and he decided to run around and create time instead of trusting himself. He obviously did a lot better this season but went back to Tech Mahomes too much.
I think when he sees something flash open that early, he's overthinking and 'seeing ghosts' as is the parlance, . . . as in, he's not panicking, but he's wagering that someone is trying to bait him with such an easy throw. He's conjuring the image of someone just outside his vision licking their chops for him to throw such an obvious option. [it's just a split second assessment, but by that point the window is closing and the scrambling is commencing] . . .

Compare to Brady or Raplesburger [who was kind of forced into it by age] when they step and rip without even assessing, by design and drilling. It's not something you decide to do in the moment. Even when he quick hits by design, there's a hint of him trying to will the pass rather than executing and trusting, . . witness those sails to the wheel routes in the flat in the Bengals game, or many of the throwaways accumulating late in the season.

Heck, even on the pinnacle play of the season, the improv to Kelce to put us in FG range, with Kelce WIDE OPEN, he STILL pump-faked and shoulder feinted to phantom coverage, risking the DLman getting to him.

And all this play into the entire mentality that he's the one that has to do everything. He can't 'make a mistake' like being baited into a throw when the defense isn't doing anything to contribute. And if he DOES 'make a mistake' everyone in the franchise might fall apart in despair and it's game over.

They're asking too much of him. He already gives so much, time for the rest of the franchise to pull their weight.

Exactly. This isn’t game 1 Mahomes where he is heavily controlled by Andy. He has a lot of freedom out there to make decisions that are based off of what he sees. Sometimes he makes the wrong choice and it’s something he needs to continue to work on. It’s no surprise that the offense improved once he took what the defense gave him.

I don't believe I've mentioned it but I loved the logo. The red sunset and palm trees in the LVI were great, especially on the field.

It looked great- so much better than LIV when the Chiefs won.

True, but it certainly helps to have a superstar like Aaron Donald/Chris Jones.

You saw what the Bengals porous line did to Donald in the first half. You have to have guys around him that can win 1v1. That gives you the freedom to change things up and scheme your stud DT free. That's what the Rams did in the second half. We can't do that because next to Jones, we don't have jack shit.

I love Chris Jones, but he is not in the same stratosphere as Aaron Donald.

Donald got shut down in that 2018 Super Bowl and it seemed like he took that shit personally this go 'round. Two straight games, NFCCG and SB, that man took over and ended the game with a sack.

He's a living legend.

Jones is definitely one of "the right 53" though, for sure.

I'm still just really disappointed that he let Burrow out of his grasp at least twice that I can remember in the AFCCG. One of those was definitely on 3rd down too; would have been a game changer.

Chris Jones did the same thing in the 2nd half against SF in the SB. We just need better guys around him.
