That should signal the end of Tyrann Mathieu.

I'm really happy with the Reid signing. He's interchangeable and can play single-high. I like him better at SS than FS but that's probably just personal preference. Not going to worry much about a guy that can fly downhill and stick someone in run defense. I think he fits well.

He's not the slot defender Mathieu was, but Mathieu also had his own limitations.

I think it just means that Spags will employ his safeties a bit differently than he has with Mathieu. Of course, there is still the off-chance that the Chiefs take more of a pure cover safety in the draft yet like Dax Hill (if he falls), Jalen Pitre, Verone McKinley, etc and Thornhill changes roles a bit or back to the bench.

In the current NFL, a boundary corner isn't allowed to do much of anything at all except run alongside a receiver. Any contact at all can be called as interference at any time. SO-why pay big money for a boundary corner?

It's true that Ward is a pretty good player. It's also true that Chase roasted him alive despite Ward having pretty good position nearly all game long. So why do you pay that position big money for results like that?

Better to put your resources on the defensive line to improve your pass rush, and pay your inside secondary players that have versatile skillsets. Rush the passer well, and confuse the passer with different pre-snap looks. That's the only way the NFL will allow you to play defense these days.

If you can't keep those guys from the ball, how about you focus on harassing and confusing the QB's into making mistakes instead?

There are no good edge rushers left in FA and the draft is hit or miss. Plus we don't play rookies much at all the their 1st year. Ward was good against the run too. Ward was only flagged twice last year for interference. Ward never had safety help last year. Ward was always tight on his man. Wait till you see the seperation from whoever we line up at his spot next year....then you will see how good Ward was. The "potential" for penalties has never, and will never, decide a players fate. We groomed Ward for four years only to see him leave first chance he gets? No, Veech just f***ed up!

I'm really surprised how cheap both Ward and JC Jackson were. Jackson was 16.5 APY and Ward was 14... I'd have paid either that easily. I like the signings Veach did make and it's apparent they still value safeties much more than corners. I'm most concerned penciling in Fenton as CB2 at this point but maybe he surprises me.

Still some good options on the edge... Clowney and Smith don't suck. There's some good ones to take chances on like Greene, Key, Carter, etc.

Yeah I agree. There are players I would have liked over Reid and juju, but they're both still good, solid additions.
