VARSITY
*****2022 NFL DRAFT THREAD - NO SPOILERS*****

Version 2022 - THE MAHOMES ERA, PHASE TWO

Let's ****ing do this.

Rules for once the draft begins:
  1. No spoiled picks in this thread, all weekend. This means that as tweets are leaking picks a few minutes before the selection is announced live, you don't post it in this thread (ex: embedded tweets), reference it in this thread (ex: Joe Slapdick says it's So and So to Green Bay) or hint at it (ex: "it's a RB!").
  2. Don't be a dick.
Otherwise, have fun, talk shit, freak out and lose your goddamned minds. It's Draft Weekend. The hot takes in these threads are so funny. I'll also be starting player threads for each of our picks as they are made, with videos and notable stats/takes in the OP. I will link those threads below. Pure knee jerk gold to reference in the future.

Here are our picks:
Round 1, #21 - Trent McDuffie
Round 1, #30 - George Karlaftis
Round 2, #54 - Skyy Moore
Round 2, #62 - Bryan Cook
Round 3, #103: - Leo Chenal
Round 4, #135: - Joshua Williams
Round 5, #145: - Darian Kinnard
Round 7, #243: - Jaylen Watson
Round 7, #251: - Isaih Pacheco
Round 7, #259: - Nazeeh Johnson

Here is a list of the prospects the Chiefs have shown interest in this year.

Veach draws the line at 15. That sounds wise.

I wouldn't either. We need edge far worse than WR or CB. We need CB worse than WR as well.

I'd give up #30, #103 and a 3rd next year to move up with New Orleans at #19. Draft Karlaftis and then New Orleans doesn't have to worry about getting sniped by anybody at 30. They can either take a QB at 16 if they feel comfortable...or they can take one at 30.

EDIT: I think I read that wrong. They DON'T want to move into the Top 15 due to cost.
They talked to those teams about not paying the premium…but they talked to them.

I’m betting that Veach has 2-3 deals in place in the top 15 with teams that won’t require as much of a premium to move down with KC if a player Veach likes starts to slide.

Good for him. Less experienced Veach sells the farm for a player he just has to have.

Broncos: they want a pass rusher or RT first and will trade up to get it. Rumored to love Nick Bonito. Also look out for Luke Goedeke.

Raiders: secondary, secondary and more secondary. They need it and think the 3rd and 4th rd will be plentiful there. They’ve had many visits and talks with corners and safeties

Chiefs: they want an edge but the question is which one? Boye Mafe is well known but they have spoken to Karlaftis and Drake Jackson who they really like. Corner is going to be a focal point too. They said Veach loves the depth but also the top after the first 3 guys. Mentioned Gordon and Booth as natural fits.

Veach is absolutely in the market for another weapon and likes a WR that will be available in early rd 2 and wants to get him.

Don’t shoot me I’m just the messenger here. The guy Veach really wants early 2nd rd apparently is…

Spoiler!
Sounds really good, I like it. Veach has the plan.

IF that news about Watson being the WR target is true, wonder just how much our RedZone offense struggling at times has to do with our seemingly newfound fascination with big boys like Watson and MVS.

I think it could go:

1. Jacksonville - Travon Walker, DE
2. Detroit - Aidan Hutchinson, DE
3. Houston - Ahmad Gardner, CB
4. New York Jets - Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE
5. New York Giants - Ikem Ekwonu, OT

Then Carolina is open for business.

Okay, so trade up with one first and third, trade back, pick up a second and a third or fourth.

I'd have no issues with that, and Watson is a big swing on potential. A rookie isn't going to start in front of Juju, MVS, and Hardman anyway. He can return kicks, and have a package of plays added to as the season goes on.

I've got no problem with that.

From Breer’s article:

Quote:
I could see Kansas City making a jump, too, but maybe for a corner—with a receiver like Georgia’s George Pickens being in play with the first-rounder they don’t wind up moving.
McDuffie?

Hi, this is Brett. I’m willing to move up and I know you want to move down, but I’m not paying retail. I’m willing to part with 29 and 50 to move up, but that’s it. Take it or leave it. We make a handshake deal right now that once you get on the clock, this is the agreed upon deal if the guy we want is there. Same deal applies for our second next year instead of this year, if yours rather have that we will include a 4th this year to compensate.

The Mahomes trade was agreed upon a few days before the draft this way.
