I get it. It would be nice if Mahomes could sneak it but don’t think Andy will ever call a Mahomes sneak again after his injury.

Winchester

Practice Squad:
Dieter
Powell
Fountain
Bootle
Key

I could see Key beating out Cook and maybe Barcoo beating out Johnson or Watson for a roster spot.
It's fun to think about the different ways we could go with the defense.

DE: Karlaftis, Clark
DT: Jones, Nnadi
LB Gay, Bolton
CB: Snead, Fenton, McDuffie
SS: Reid
FS: Thornhill

or
DE: Karlaftis
DT: Jones, Nnadi
LB: Chanel, Gay, Bolton
CB: Fenton, Sneed
S: Thornhill, Reid, Cook

We have a lot of flexibility this year to match up with whatever the opposing offense is throwing at us. I feel like we have the tools to defend the Ravens just as well as we can the Bengals.

Defense will be DYNAMIC.

We have 14 going to camp as it is, so I don't think so unless there ends up a UDFA that tickles their fancy or some surprise value cut. It's definitely not impossible.

JuJu, Hardman, MVS, and Moore are pretty well locks which leaves two spots.

Josh Gordon, Justin Watson, Daurice Fountain, and Corey Coleman seem like the most likely to truly compete for those spots.

Not sure how serious they are about Gordon again but they brought him back and the competition isn't that serious.

Watson is a nice special teams guy so he could stick in a role similar to Kemp but has more speed. 6'3" 215 and runs a 4.42. Dominated the Ivy league at Pennsylvania with 3 consecutive 1000-yard seasons. Never did break out though in 4 years with Tampa Bay.

Fountain nearly stuck last year on the 53, so he has more than a passing shot. Seems like it'll be him or Watson and not both but you never know.

Coleman is a former 15th overall pick but has had issues with attitude and injuries, so who knows with him. He's built a lot like Skyy Moore but has worse hands. If he can be a team player and dedicates himself to being a good player instead of expecting it handed to him, the Chiefs could have a nice little steal on their hands. If not, well bye.

Omar Bayless had a really outstanding Senior year at Arkansas State then made Carolina's PS last year so he's very intriguing. Nice size at 6'1" 210 but ran a 4.62 40 and fell out of the draft.

I don't think the rest have much shot... Gehrig Deiter is here for Pat's moral support and nothing else, then you have Gary Jennings Jr that's a career PS guy, and Matt Sexton and Chris Finke don't look like anything.

If I were to bet, I'd pick Watson and Gordon as the two that stick. I'm hoping Coleman is a changed man because he could be a spark plug, but I won't get my hopes up very high.

They felt so good about Key that they signed two safeties in free agency then went out and drafted two safeties.

Key might make the roster but it sure as shit isn't going to be at the expense of Cook. Maybe he beats out Bush and Johnson. Maybe.

Ingram is an okay rotational piece. I'd completely understand if you'd rather Green and Ingram than Green and Clowney but I'm not much on Ingram and Clowney. Green has far more upside than either and just as much production. I'd like to take that chance.
Yeah I think agree to disagree I guess. Just don't see Green's upside other than him being young. Guess we're seeing different things

I guess because he was just as productive last year as 60% of Clowney's seasons, he's only 25, he showed growth last year, he's probably going to be really cheap, and a tackling dummy is probably an upgrade over Alex Okafor?

I'm not looking at the kid as a long-term starter or superstar. I'm looking at him as a rotational body that at least has some promise to keep getting better. He's built like Emmanuel Ogbah and has a similar career trajectory so far. Like Ogbah and Okafor, he can kick down inside and have some results.

I'd prefer to have that guy with at least some upside to go with a veteran like Ingram or Clowney rather than two guys that are what they are. I mean, you look at Ingram too, Green produced last season as much as Ingram has in any of the past 3 years.

I dunno, I like that. I'm not projecting him to be TJ Watt, lol.

I don't think he was particularly productive. He's a guy who flashes and then disappears for long stretches. He's another Jarran Reed but slightly younger and a DE. I honestly don't see the upside or the value and I'd probably prefer a stopgap that is a consistently strong performer, as I believe Ingram is, over a guy whose performances don't match his top line numbers. If we could get him super cheap, I guess maybe. But if the choice is between him and Ingram and working out the long term answer at DE later, I'll take that.

On the flipside I just registered your point on Okafor and strongly agree. F it, let's get him, I never want to see Okafor take another snap

Couple interesting updates on the ESPN.com depth chart:

Karlaftis has been moved to the starter at LDE and Chenal the starter at MLB.

Good research, but as you can tell from that, it is pretty rare that a team is going to cut early to mid round drafted players in favor of keeping low cost players and UDFAs.

It wastes draft picks and cost money.

I think Devon Key looked pretty good in practice and to begin with in preseason games, but he later got exposed when he was behind on a play, his 4.61 speed would not allow him to catch up. We will see how he does this year.

It is easy for me to say, but not so easy to do. Don't let another poster's attacking opinion get you down.

Enjoy the Chiefs and what they are doing and keep on posting on Chiefsplanet.
