That's 51 spots. If you bring Melvin Ingram back then you're at 52 and you've got one more spot to fill. That could be a 10th OL or you could keep a guy like Jalen Watson on the roster. That might be some overkill on the DB side.

I also think that Niang and Fortson start on the PUP list. When Fortson comes back, you can carry 4 TEs and cut a DB.
I'm in on that, except I'm beginning to think Niang might be a lost cause. What are we doing with PTW? Just in case something falls through with Brown, I'd like to have a serviceable LT. I'm a fan of Fortson, so I'd like to see him get a chance this year. I like 4 TEs at the goal line.

Chiefs are going to have to make a bunch of cuts before signing many rookies, We also have several camp invites that might be signed.

I wish someone would cut a speed rushing DE that we could sign.

Niang starts on the PUP list and may not come off if he has any setbacks. I purposefully left an open spot....so you can keep PTW as your 10th o-lineman and have him on the roster.

Fortson probably starts on the PUP as well. You can cut a DB, or move him to the PS, when you bring him back.

Maybe if the Chiefs think that Frank Clark gets suspended and they have that cap space money to use.

Probably not. If Frank does get suspended, it will be for a few games.

He's gone after this year anyway.

Counting the players

Chiefs had -
73 Players on roster prior to the 2022 draft
+1 Traded for CB Lonnie Johnson
-1 Cut WR Chris Finke (Already signed with Bears)
+13 Added UDFAs

86 total players under contract. (Counted Orlando Brown Jr even though he has not signed tag.)

Still to come.
Chiefs have 10 draft picks to sign.
If we add any mini-camp players, we have to stay under 90 total on roster

I was looking at Jerrion Ealy's tape earlier and this kid looks like a more dynamic version of Damian Williams. I am very surprised how he wasn't drafted. His tape looks better than most running backs in this draft class.

I liked him too, think he has a shot. In terms of the state of the roster, I think there's a couple of ways to think about it - short and long-term, and then best and worst case scenarios. I think the absolute worst case scenario involves:

- DL remains awful. Karlaftis improves us against the run but doesn't develop into a decent pass rusher, Clark remains Clark, Saunders is injured and Nnadi is turd.
- Secondary struggles with a number of new players and moving parts. Reid is more like the Reid of last year than his rookie year. Cook is poor in coverage. McDuffie's length means he can't cover elite WRs with size. Williams and others never develop.
- Chenal never steps up and remains a limited run stuffer
- Offence falls back somewhat. Moore becomes a limited slot guy only. There are a lot of people struggling to pick up the playbook and lots of mediocrity.

The best case scenario looks something like.

- DL improves with Karlaftis immediately upgrading the unit and increasing QB pressure. Ingram comes back early for a full year and offers the same energy and production as last year (he WAS good). Nnadi at least gets back to some run-stuffing form.
- LB group improves with Chenal immediately murdering RBs and offering relentless blitz pressure. Gay takes a step forward in his coverage.
- Secondary is dramatically better. McDuffie is an immediate lockdown corner, Williams quickly becomes a competent CB and matches up against bigger WRs (f you Mike Williams). Reid returns to rookie form, Thornhill and Cook flourish. Overall Spags uses these versatile chess pieces effectively to create havoc.
- Moore thrives in the system quickly moving from reliable slot to genuine elite all-rounder. MVS and Juju combine with him to become a lethal three-way threat. Mecole is last year's playoff version. Hell, Ross makes the roster and balls out, who knows.

In terms of short and long-term, I think we've got to temper expectations early on. There's a LOT of new players and a lot of rookies. I'm expecting it to start rough and for the first half of the season to be a grind, with the hope that it begins to click later on and not too late.

I believe there's more of a chance for the upside than disaster. I think you make a key point: Overall Spags uses these versatile chess pieces effectively to create havoc . We had a lot of one-trick ponies last year and a lot of underperformers. From what we've been told, the draft class is a bunch of athletic smart guys that Spags is already planning for. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Yeah I'm pretty optimistic. I mean, even if all of these draftees bust somehow it's hard for me to be too critical anyway, as they're mainly players I liked a lot.

Think the biggest risk right now is the DL. I feel pretty confident that the secondary just has so many numbers that surely some of them will stick and be decent. Last year we were ruined by just a couple of obvious weak links, and it's difficult to see how we can't be better in those spots.

We had over 1,000 snaps from Sorensen last year that we won't have to endure and unless Lonnie Johnson gets them all, we're getting better there. We had god knows how many snaps with Hitchens and Niemann being complete ass. If they don't all go to Carter we should be good. I suppose that's the one risk, Spags doesn't always spot the blindingly obvious when it comes to player talent and performance.

How does ESPN determine their depth charts?

Now they’ve got Chenal behind Carter again and McDuffie starting.
