Maybe our DL is a lot better than we thought

From last week:

Now this week I saw this screen shot with a little under 5 mins left in the game.

39 drop backs
2 sacks
3 QB hits
6 hurries

Updated after the game ESPN app shows we have EIGHT QB hits. Damn our pressure seems a lot better this year. It’s mainly bc Karlaftis and Dunlap are way better than what Frank and Okafor gave us last year, Frank has been better and Mike ****ing Danna has played real well. What a surprise that man has been for us.

I expected our D to be much improved from last year, especially the DL. Love to see it.

This isn't 1992 guys - yards are going to happen. Those of you hoping we'll field a team allowing us to win games 13-10 are just shit out of luck.

We got a championship caliber effort out of the defense last night. Was it perfect? No - but it was unquestionably good enough to win with, even in the first half.

And we shoulda been free of him last off-season.

It's startling how ineffective he is out there when you just watch him each snap. He simply brings nothing to the field at all. I saw one play where he actually made a fairly quick little move and found himself in space. He didn't impact the play any because it went the other way, but he at least did something to make himself look a bit useful.

He's just hot garbage.

This. They were without McDuffie and were forced to go young in the backfield. There were some breakdowns but overall the coverage was good all night. The chargers made some big time grabs.

I mean that throw Herbert made to set up the final score was just pristine. Sometimes the bear eats you - tip your cap. That play was really well covered and Herbert just made one of those Mahomes throws that was essentially impossible to defend.

Now the guy who actually might have worried me a little last night was Justin Reid. We'll see what further analysis supports but he looked a step behind most of the evening. And I'm fairly certain he's the guy that ate shit on that last TD.

Looked like a bit of a step back from him. And man, Fenton just couldn't get out of his own !@#$ing way (serious Steven Nelson vibes from him last night; solid player who had games where he was just a hot mess).

But the kids looked awfully good. Man I like this LB corps.

Bolton and Gay were all over the place. They led the team in tackles.

Sadly Gay missed a few HUGE tackles for losses and they wound up for big gains.

The correct move would have been to trade for Mack

I was pleased with the defense. We made adjustments. We got better pressure after their injuries (something that just didn't seem to ever happen last year), and we didn't give up huge plays. I can't think of a single instance where honey badger would've thrown up his hands.

This is one of the best offenses we will face, built to beat us. We will win a lot of games if the defense holds teams to 24 (with a late td). I mean a little over 1 minute left in the game and they had 17 points. How can you say this wasn't a solid outing?

I'm not convinced they are good, there were injuries. But the linebackers were being kept cleaner and thats an improvement.

This is a very good post.....if someone would have told me that the Chiefs would hold the Chargers to 24 points before this game even began, I would have told you the Chiefs would win that game.....

It was a very solid performance by the D against a top tier QB, a top notch group of skill positions, and a well above average offensive line. And lets not forget that it took a miraculous effort at the end of the game for the Bolts to get to point 24.....very solid performance indeed

I think an interesting comparison is the defense we saw last night compared to either of the 2 defenses that played the Bills last year.

We’re faster. We’re hungrier and more passionate than last year. It’s a big improvement for sure. And this draft was a major part of it.

I know few people have all 22 but man I watched McDuffie last week and am convinced he’s our best corner. There’s a reason he isn’t targeted. The guy was in Hollywood Brown’s hip pocket every time. Blanket coverage.

Dare I say this defense could be…good??
