Maybe our DL is a lot better than we thought

From last week:

Now this week I saw this screen shot with a little under 5 mins left in the game.

39 drop backs
2 sacks
3 QB hits
6 hurries

Updated after the game ESPN app shows we have EIGHT QB hits. Damn our pressure seems a lot better this year. It’s mainly bc Karlaftis and Dunlap are way better than what Frank and Okafor gave us last year, Frank has been better and Mike ****ing Danna has played real well. What a surprise that man has been for us.

Fenton looks like our fourth best corner right now, when McDuffie is healthy.

Pre-draft, we were talking about Fenton being our CB2. In hindsight, that is a horrifying thought.

A lot of credit to Veach for picking Watson and getting McDuffie. If/when Josh Williams really comes around, we’re in great shape.

The first half our DLine got worked. The halftime adjustments were money though.

I think Chris Jones switched sides to go against their rookie, and Karlaftis was in there a lot more it seemed, because he was a standout to me.

I don't think that's fair. Mike Williams is a match up nightmare for a guy like Fenton. He woulda been a poor match up for McDuffie too. Williams seems to eat every time we play them.

My point was more that without the promising CB depth that we have, Fenton would be forced into bad matchups almost every week.

As the 3rd or 4th corner, we can be a bit more creative in how we use him.

At the very least it shows that mahomes was right to call him out in training camp. He’s gotta stop being so damn grabby. I hope he took that criticism to heart.

Also, cheval looked a little lost in the preseason but holy hell, based on yesterday he looks like he’s going to be a problem for opposing offenses.

Yeah - he's definitely taken a step forward; though in a perfect world he's your 3rd or even 4th best DE. In small bursts he can be effective but I don't think he's a 50% of the snaps guy. So if/when we move on from Clark, we'll still need another guy to co-chair that DE2 position with him and ideally a 3rd complementary speed/burst rusher.

I wonder if having a guy like Karlaftis, who's sort of a supercharged version of Danna, hasn't given him a little bit of an example of what he should strive for and how he should approach his reps.

Probably not - but seeing another young guy who plays a really similar game to you but who's having a little more success could've been a nice little blueprint for him.

Getting too high or too low on a player after only 2 games is premature.
