Are The Patriots Back?

We sucked last year but things are looking up this year.

I think we'll make the playoffs but having a rookie QB is historically a limiting factor.

Really appreciated the battles with you guys in 2018 and 2019.

Who knows what the future holds?

Patriots could have had any QB in the NFL/NFL history last night and they all would have taken an L unless they can play defensive back/linebacker/defensive line at a superstar level as well. Tough to win when the opposing team scores a TD every time until kneel down time. Jones first interception is mostly on him but many true number 1 receivers high point that ball and turns it into a TD.

It is the Patriots defense that weakened near the end of the season and that needs to be rebuilt with more speed/youth/impact players. Allen made a few great throws into tight windows but for the most part his receivers were wide open and their was little pass rush on him.

Bills may not have played that many great QB's this year but they still have a very good defense. The Bills players on offense outside of Josh Allen are not that good so even with the Patriots missing 3 out of their top 4 CBs, it was still disappointing for Josh Allen and Bills to tear them apart.

I think Jones will be a decent QB in a couple seasons. Probably not the next Brady, but he fell into a great team culture with extremely good stability. And he's not stupid. Get him some weapons, get some more speed at RB, refurbish the defense, and he'll probably lead NE to more than a couple 10- to 12-win seasons.

He accomplished the first task as a rookie starting QB: don't shit the bed. And if you do, don't shit the bed repeatedly. Or in a row. Like most rookie starting QBs do.

He did better than average for his rookie year.

Didn't we "Hear it first" from you about Pats /CHIEFS in this year's AFC Championship? What happened?

His exit from here surprised me. Always got along with him and understood where he was coming from. And I don't think he was treated too badly here.

Then. Gone. He did seemingly say goodbye through rep. Hope he is well tonight.

Check your hearing/vision. I'm the one who predicted Brady/Bucs over the Chiefs in last years Super Bowl. I thought it would be a blowout and I was right with that prediction. I wasn't predicting Patriots winning SB this year since I didn't think they had the horses to win 3-4 tough playoff games.

I never seriously predicted Pats vs Chiefs in AFC championship game. In this thread I did say Brady is great and Jones unlikely to be nearly as good.

I also said when the Patriots were playing their best ball if/when the Chiefs-Patriots played in the playoffs, it would be a good game. But that game could have been in first or 2nd round of the playoffs.

At that time Patriots were playing much better. They fell apart down the stretch due to injuries/covid and just no longer being that good on defense.

I actually thought the Patriots would lose to the Bills. But I will take an L on my prediction there since I thought it would be a relatively close game and not a blowout. Tough to win against a top 5 defense that throws the ball all the time on offense when you don't have 3 of your 4 best cornerbacks entering the season and (by far) your best pass rusher is no longer playing well for some reason.... Judon went from fringe DPOY candidate to playing poorly and Patriots fans that follow the team closely realized that going into the Bills game. Injury? Getting tired. Many more double teams? Players around him starting to suck?

It is an impressive list overall without too many names on it. Mark Sanchez for all of his faults did beat a Patriots team in the 2010 playoffs that was more talented than probably 2-3 of the Patriots SB winning teams. Sanchez really did play great in that game and make some nice clutch throws.

He then lost a close game in AFC championship game in which statistically at least he ouplayed Big Ben. Jones will be better than Sanchez but that Jets defense for a few years was really good. Patriots don't have that right now.
