The Star could have opted to not publish the letter from some dipshit who only started "following" the team as defending SB champions. It's understandable that they did post it in the spirit of LTEs being a forum for contrarian views as ridiculous as they might be. Fine.
But there is exactly zero reason to amplify the letter through their PR mouthpiece. None.
