It's probably already been mentioned here, but the rumor is that it will require a 1st to even begin the negotiations for DJ Moore. Plus a plyer or two. I doubt Veach is going to entertain giving away a 1st+ right now.

He's probably worth a 1st - it's just not my preference. Like I said, I'd deal a couple 2nds for him; perhaps that has similar value for a team that needs significant roster additions.

The players involved in these sorts of deals are almost always back 1/3 of the roster guys so I don't think that's the hurdle.

I guess the question is how much you value the 3 years of relatively cheap team control. Because we got a 1, 2, 4 and future 4 and 6 for Hill. So effectively a 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7. And honestly, you could almost wash out the two 4s and the 6 by using them as a proxy for the 3rd we included in the McDuffie trade up.

Hill's a better player than Moore. Realistically his contract will pay him about $93 million over the next 4 years (he won't see that final year at $43 million).

DJ Moore's contract will pay him $62 million over that same period but the Chiefs won't be on the hook for the signing bonus. So the Chiefs will get him over those 4 years for roughly $45 million.

So lets say you give up a 2nd and a future 1st (call it two seconds at that point).

The deal effectively becomes (setting aside some loose change):

DJ Moore
Trent McDuffie
$45 million in cap space over 3+ years

for

Tyreek Hill
2nd round pick

I mean....you make that deal, right?

I think when you put it in that sort of perspective, it does a really nice job of demonstrating why I favor getting Moore as much as I do. His contract is a MASSIVE value proposition. That 3/$45 million is what Haason Reddick just signed for so use him as a proxy.

Hill
2nd

for

Moore
McDuffie
Reddick

Demarcus Lawrence or even Charvarius Ward would be a viable entry as well.

This is probably because I'm trying to make lunch while responding to CP, but how do we have Tyreek Hill to trade? Did i miss something or is this just hypothetically if w had Reek?

It's using the draft capital and cap space we used gained by trading Hill and re-allocating it towards Moore, etc...

Not a 'real' trade - a transitive property trade.

Right. You're using resources already gained from the Hill trade (including the cap space).

Why? DJ Moore is a Top 10 WR in football. And it's a certainty. We shouldn't value 1st round picks AS MUCH as other teams - because we already have our franchise QB locked up....forever.

It would likely result in a substantial net gain though, which is what makes it incredibly attractive.

Adding an explosive element back to this offense with Moore could push this team over the top and it would be insanely cheap from the financial aspect.

Edit: That said, there are some that think the Panthers will be asking for a lot more than we think, and they should in all honesty. Even then though, trades that happen in-season tend to be at a discount.

I'd like the Brian Burns and DJ Moore.

Wrap them up in a to-go plate.

I don't think the Chiefs want to give up a 1st since the draft is in Kansas City next year and they want to have a pick for the crowd.
