Medications can cause it as well. My wife's blood pressure medicine was causing her kidneys to dump too much calcium which caused her stones.

High sodium diet can cause this as well. But usual suspects are tea and soda.

Ironically I encountered mine trying to get healthier. I had drank 2 of the 2 liter bottles of mountain dew per day for about 20 years. Decided to give it up and started drinking Gatorade and water.

During the rehydration and sort of re inflation of my kidneys, it dislodged a stone while I was at work.

I had gone to the restroom before the stabbing pain started, and I thought I was having a diabetic problem, because it looked like I was pissing pure sugar.

It turned out to be a sort of sand related to this, and when I went back into the truck to resume unloading, the constant twisting and turning finally dislodged the stone and it felt like a knife in my back being dragged and twisted.

I was pale, sweaty, couldn't get a good deep breath, and my boss who was so a good friend was asking me questions and I told him about pissing what looked Ike sugar earlier, and he told me it was a kidney stone and that I should go to the ER.

Well my no Insurance having ass didn't go, and I had to pass that ****er at home. Most painful 8 hours of my life.

Dealt with this about 3 years ago and it was just awful. Worst pain I've ever experienced in my life.

Had a woman tell me it was worse for her than giving birth.

High fructose corn syrup is one of the biggest causes of oxalate buildup, that's true. But there's more to it than that, especially if somebody is pre-disposed to getting them. You should see the list they gave my wife - it's pretty long.

My urologist (male) refers to it as “childbirth for men”

I didn’t know what was happening to me as I’d never heard of a kidney stone. I had increasing pain in my nuts and I thought I might have Louie Aguilar ball cancer. When it hit me I was rolling face down in our master bath puking like a dog. My 4 year old came in and I thought “imma gonna f**img die in front of my kid”

Rushed to ER. Doc said it’s a kidney stone, they get several a week in there. Hit me with morphine, I started to fall asleep and BAM. Screaming my head off, 3 male nurses pinning me to the bed.

It’s indescribable

Do you eat a lot of cheese? That is what I found out to be my reason for da stones. I have been in serious pain twice from these kidney stones. The first time I really thought, well this is it. Something has failed internally and I'm toast. That's how bad the pain was. After 12 hours I went to the ER at 3 am and these mother ****ers made me wait until 8 am before they took me in. There was just me and some elderly lady in a wheel chair in the waiting room. They did a scan and told me I had da stones. Gave me a prescription that made the pain go away almost instantly. I passed the stone the next morning. Warm water makes the pain go away. The second time I knew what to do. Jump in the bathtub in as warm of water as you can handle. The pain goes away with the heat and I believe breaks in down so (in my case) it passes quickly. The most pain I have ever been it. I don't eat pizzas anymore. It's not worth it.

I have ask pretty much all of my chronic kidney stone patients what specialist have recommended to avoid them and for some it just doesn’t matter and it gets to a point they don’t even feel them , I see one girl mid 30s every few months the most I have counted in 1 visit was 7 stones all stacked up in the ureter up to 1.5 cm and she felt no pain.

I felt like a pussy passing my 2mm stone lol .

Drinking water was the one thing I heard the most , also heard drinking more beer but not sure how official that recommendation is.

Yikes. The dreaded steinstrasse (stonestreet). I’ve seen those take up the entire mid/distal ureter.

The human ureters are pretty amazing. Average of 3mm circumference I’ve seen stones as large 2.3cm in circumference formed in them. Crazy stuff.

If you have chronic stones, especially if they're large or have consistently gotten larger since you first started having them, ask your doctor to make sure your calcium levels are normal. It's not common but in some cases it's not because of anything you're doing, your body is just betraying you like a no-good rat bastard.
