I feel the same for fancy cars when people say don't invest in depreciating assets and so forth... it has nothing to do with "investing" and everything to do with spending disposable money on something fun.

Probably not. It doesn't mean you have to sit quietly and let shit happen. Again, I've seen too many people ruined by gambling. At any given time, my local casino is jammed full. Even on days like Christmas Day. A good 75% of them have little to no disposable income - they're spending money they need for food and gas on slot machines.
