There’s some other stuff you could do but before any bump in the salary cap those three moves get us to $94.4 million. More than enough to sign whoever we want to WR, DE, OT.
I'm all in, but don't think Jones will take $15 mill unless it is 4 or 5 year deal with most of it guaranteed, and probably still wouldn't take it.

That’s the cap savings in a restructure per OTC (which is obviously not 100% correct but likely pretty close considering how they normally redo deals).

Shoot, I'd even say that if you're going to run to like $18M per year on Smith-Schuster, might it not be even more impactful to spend 2/3 of that on Saquon Barkley?

(ducks)
I mean I wouldn't spend it on Barkley, but I 100% agree with your outlook on the Mahomes restructures.

Remember that every time we restructure him, it just moves money down the road. So you'd better have a damn good reason to do it.

I don't think JJSS qualifies. Especially not with it looking like that's probably the role that Moore will be most successful in anyway. And I still don't know that I see anything special in JJSS; he's just a guy who catches balls in traffic and gets hit. Lots of guys can do that.

You don't pay guys to be products of the offense; it's pissing away a market efficiency. You draft/develop those guys OR you find them on value contracts looking to re-establish their worth. Or get them on cheaper 3-year deals where they can outplay their pay.

But you don't pay retail for a guy like that, IMO.

Yeah but if you keep Mahomes healthy and win a couple more SBs in the next 5 years it'd be worth it. And since Mahomes is going to be here for another 10 years you have time to put the financial impact off. And then by that time what's the cap going to be? In the same breath I'm not so sure we don't start using draft capital to move up and grab some young impact players. Some future draft capital even.

Agree. JuJu is not a difference maker. But in the next couple years we are going to need to get a difference maker receiver. Won't be able to count on Travis forever. I Like Tooney as a 2 or 3 but it does not appear he can stay on the field. The bad thing is the market for WR has gone through the roof the last couple years. JuJu will get over paid here soon but probably not by us.

Other than we did not do it this last year. The numbers are really ballooning on his contract to do this.

Agreed. Hell, I'd be willing to move MVS, if we could get a pick. Toney and Moore are fine. Add some cast-off FAs and perhaps another pick and we're good to go.

So you want to go into next year with Toney and Skyy Moore as your best wide receivers? Am I reading this correctly?

Meh. You just sign him to an extension and kick the can all the way down to his retirement ala Saints and Brees.

Towards the end of Brees career, the 2017 Saints had one of the greatest draft hauls of all time and even WITH that, they barely tread water while fighting themselves out of cap hell seemingly every season.

Prior to that insane draft class, they'd gone 7-9 in 4 of the previous 5 seasons. Their unwillingness to intelligently plan their roster is largely what led to that decline and a miraculous draft in '17 pulled them from the fire. You just can't depend on that.

I just don't think that's a wise blueprint to follow.

I’m not saying I would do that on Barkley. Just that if I’m breaking that piggy bank this year, it’s going to be for a force multiplier. Not many of those available in this FA class.

Da’Ron Payne?(if he makes it)
Barkley?

Not sure there’s much beyond that.

Why are we going all in on a small gap when we have chances to win sbs for the next decade plus?

We won a SB 3 years ago.

We don't need to win shit now. And if making us 10% more likely to win one now makes us 5% each of the following 5, I ain't making that trade.

I don't want this to be a Seahawks/Packers situation where a decade later we look back and wonder what happened. And I think pushing too many chips in right now makes that more likely.
