Sure, but it’s hard to really know what the chiefs actual intent was since they planned their offseason around tyreek being there. If the above strategy was their plan all along then why did we draft skyy Moore who projects as more of a slot WR? Why all the short term wr contracts? It feels to me like the chiefs are wanting to strike big at wr but they’re showing they’re not going to panic and they’ll wait for the right opportunity to fall to them.

But given where we are picking and knowing we’ll have so much uncertainty between skyy and Justyn Ross and a WR1 who’s a total unknown if you do go with a rookie I don’t see the harm in a stopgap. It is pretty consistent with the way veaxh does things.

As good an example of any, yeah.

Big TE to draw attention over the middle and the moment you start to float towards the corners to try to cover the sack of jack rabbits you unleashed on the field, you start to take body blows on balls to Kelce and/or runs from Pacheco.

Hell, you could keep bringing Jet back on 1 year deals to play a bit of a James White role to Pacheco's Sony Michel.

The biggest problem that Patriots team ever had was that Gronk had been beaten into a fine powder by then. He was a shell of his peak self. But you take that style of offense and put in those buttery routes that Kelce can still run, and you'll maintain that 30+ PPG offense, IMO.

DeVonta Smith, Jaylon Waddle for example. Size isn't so much the pressing issue for me, as it is the ability to go up and snag an imperfect throw, while still having the speed to be a true deep threat.

Man...a prime Odell Beckham....something in that mold would be outstanding too.

As much of a Hardman stan as i am, i'm tired of seeing receivers who can't come down with the ball unless it's perfect throw.
I love where your heads at. It’s so frustrating to watch other WRs fight like hell for the ball. Hand fighting, push offs, high pointing passes. I’m tired of most of our WRs waiting for the ball to hit their hands. I love mecole but he needs to catch strikes. Mvs does nothing to attack the ball in the air. Watson can generally catch what comes to him but his only value is to run the right route. When was our last fade route? Because it feels like we pull ridiculous gymnastics just to pass the ball on 3rd and short.

I’m ok with losing tyreek but man a HUGE loss was the “**** it tyreek somewhere” pass. You’ve got to give mahomes more options to go and get whatever is thrown in their radius.

Toney is quickly becoming this WR. If the ball is anywhere in his vicinity he is coming down with the ball.

Yup and we need to find WRs who can actually exploit the attention kelce gets. And if kelce gets mugged the way he is, I don’t know how much longer we can expect this peak level of play. Kelce is getting older and we can’t just keep expecting him to carry our entire WR corps on his huge shoulders.

Currently, Kadarius is the only WR we have that consistently attacks the ball. And it is frustrating to watch a guy with MVS's stature consistently waiting for balls to hit him in the hands and never going up after it, often allowing much smaller DBs to defense those passes. I've said in the past that KC could use a Michael Irvin type of WR that wasn't the biggest or the fastest wide out, but would battle for every ball thrown at him. We'd never stall out on a critical drive. hell, maybe we'd never lose.

Every time he sees the field you see him do things downfield our other WRs can’t. I agree but I don’t know how much I want to trust all that on a guy who can’t stay healthy and who may not even be here past next year.

I mean...we have thrown for more yards than any team in football - SOMEBODY is catching the ball on the other end...

What you're demonstrating here is exactly why I DON'T care about size much for this offense. We don't have a lot of plays where guys are fighting to take balls away because that's simply not how this offense works.

It's not designed to work that way. It doesn't HAVE to work that way. Those are higher risk, lower reward plays that lesser offenses have to rely on.

And there's some 'familiarity breeds contempt' things here. Oh sure, we get annoyed as hell watching Mike Williams push off again and again and again and get away with it. But at 3 years/$60 million, he's getting the same kind of separation that MVS is getting out there. He's physical because he HAS to be.

I don't need those guys. And when you start to get to "well I want someone who's built like Mike Evans with the physicality of Gronk and the speed of Tyreek Hill!" well no shit, congrats - we ALL want peak Calvin Johnson.

But barring that, if I'm picking 'average representative models' - physicality just ain't high on my list at all.

Absolutely. With just enough speed to not be a glorified possession WR.

Basically, we're talking about prime Sammy Watkins (or slightly better catch%) without the injury issues.

But yeah. Enough speed to make defenses have to account for him as some kind of real deep threat. Plus, the physicality to beat man press, so the combination makes Dcs and DBs have to make a decision on how to play him in a given situation.

Most guys don't play on that 5th year option. I think with the new rules it's likely to be in the $14 million dollar range which may/may not be a good deal by then, but it will go up with the transition tag number, IIRC.

Ultimately it's probably little more than negotiating leverage. The value of the 5th year option has lessened a pretty fair amount.
