Probably we'll see more of this kind of thing, not less if things keep going the way they've been recently. Stores/small businesses are going to hire private security, as the local LEs are increasingly hamstrung by budget cutting and the organizational disinterest in dealing with these types of crimes, politically imposed or otherwise.

The cost of doing business is rising with no end in sight, so what are they supposed to do? Can't just keep letting petty thieves steal your increasingly expensive inventory; you'll go out of business in a hurry that way.

Who knows? maybe if these businesses make it physically risky enough, some of these would-be thieves will decide to go and just get a job instead of risking bodily harm. Which they should be doing anyway. **** those POS.
