When were you “sold” that this team could make it back to the Super Bowl?

I always wondered what the Super Bowl bye week might feel like growing up. Now we all have had 3 over the last 4 years. In the 2019 season I was such a mess of nerves and was going crazy with the wait. The next year, I was having health problems and was a new Dad, which made that whole playoff run and COVID year a blur.

This year, I’m just trying to bask in the glow - and that’s exactly what this thread is. When was the moment you were sold that this team could go all the way? Check my spoiler’d answer below.

Spoiler!

NOTE: I totally accept the always correct answer that’s “we have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, we ALWAYS can go all the way.”

I thought the whole time even through the ups and downs we had as good of a chance as anyone else in the AFC to be that team. But honestly I think it is fair that you can flip a coin between the Bills, Chiefs, and Bengals. Give the Chiefs a slight edge but its slight.

This team, while impressive had a tough time in the regular season putting a full 4 quarters together on O and D. Been a weird ass season but here we ****ing are.

when you have a QB like Mahomes you are always in contention and he doesn't choke in big games like some other elite QBs have.

I thought we could make it to the Super Bowl with Alex smith back in 2013…

Then mahomes stepped in and I thought we could make it to the superbowl every year.

We are the team of the 20’s and (to soon to say but) 30’s.

That 49er’s game this year was a pretty good indication that this team could score on anyone, and always had a punchers chance against any elite defense in the league. When I type that out it sounds so stupid bc it’s something we already knew.

I thought they were a really good team all year, but the losses to the Bills and Bengals had me thinking they were a good not great team that would struggle against the other elite teams.

But, per usual, I was wrong.

Its cliché' but with Mahomes as your QB the SB is always in play. I expected the division to be a knockdown drag out but expected it would only make them better down the stretch.

Turns out they were just really good damn near the entire season while most of the division was bad. KC only loses when they shoot themselves in the foot.

Bills game they were definitely flat, but Cincy game they lost by making mistakes, Cincy didn't beat them other than by just making fewer mistakes.

Same way KC won the AFCCG.

Other than the Superbowl where we had just lost way too much to have a chance anyway, that's how most if not all Chiefs losses are since Mahomes. We always lose because of mistakes we made rather than because the other team was just better.

Yeah, I agree.

I had them at 11 wins before the season. I wasn't really convinced they were a Super Bowl team until the playoffs started and they beat the Jags.

About 2 weeks after I posted my magnum opus of stupidity!

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=346370

My drunken rant at losing 3 in a row to Cincy, after we had already lost to Buffalo. I thought we’d make the playoffs but get beat. Then the rest of the season happened and here we are. But I’d say 2 weeks after the Cincy game I started having that feeling. Then when we got HFA I felt even better about it.
