Nate Taylor: Chiefs expected to franchise OBJ again [not happening]

Quote:
Brown is technically the Chiefs’ top free agent, though for the second consecutive year, he might never reach the open market. Similar to last year, the Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on Brown, which will prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Such a move will allow both parties more time to negotiate a lucrative contract extension. If the parties cannot agree to a deal by the middle of July, Brown would once again be restricted to a one-year salary of $18.4 million, according to Over The Cap.

Quote:
The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes the Chiefs are "expected" to place the franchise tag on LT Orlando Brown again.

Brown played on the tag last year, briefly threatening to not report to camp before showing up on time. Since coming over for the Ravens in a trade, Brown has been stellar if not exceptional, and would probably profile as one of the five best free agents on the market if he got there. Taylor also writes that Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal with a $30.25 million signing bonus last offseason.
Not really new news...but he won't be hitting the open market at least.

We trade up to say 13 to get lets say, Paris Johnson JR, then who knows, we may not be getting the same mercenary character than OBJ is.

You're gonna want a real blue chip LT prospect so by trading both, you'd have the ammo to start over on the DL, money to spend and wouldn't have to blow out your draft to reload.

You just won the SB so you've got some rope here.
Now you're not being serious and are semi trolling.

I'll pretend you aren't and point out that 1 of the main reasons you do this is it allows to keep Jones as there's little chance we can afford both.

On a player for player basis.....Jones is a MUCH better DT than OBJ is a LT. I assume even you can admit that?

If the report from pro football talk is true, can you really blame them? I mean damn man.

When Trent Williams got his deal, David Bahktiari was the highest paid LT at $23 million. Williams got an average of $23,010. He was the highest paid by 10k or 0.435%.

Again, if the reports are true that Orlando and his agent demanded $25 million a year avg, that would not only be the highest paid, but it would put him above the highest paid LT (Williams) by 8.5%.

There’s no way in hell any competent GM in this league is gonna give the player 8.5% more than the highest paid unless that player is incredible. The only other GM that would do that is a dumb desperate one like they have in Cleveland (hello DeShaun Watson’s record $54 million cap hit).

LOlz. So now we're not just going to trade away OBJ, we're also going to lose Wylie, and trade away Chris Jones, and cut Frank? Just so we can avoid paying OBJ?

What have you guys been smoking this morning?

Do you know how much it will cost to trade up to 13 from 31?

Obviously not if you think it's at all a realistic scenario.

No. You're high if you think Veach tells Andy what's going to happen with the team. Veach tells Andy what the situation is, and the options that are available to him, then Andy makes the decisions.

To be fair, O.City did say it just a few posts ago in this very thread.

However, Superturtle is correct. He's the only one that said it.

same price it cost to get Mahomes which was:

next years first, and maybe this years 3rd possibly 4th.

Not a big deal as we will be getting a 2nd for OBJ, and we will draft low as always.

No it won't be the same price that we paid to get Mahomes. Drafts change from year to year based on players and team needs. It isn't just as simple as throwing down two 1st round picks and a 3rd rounder to go get your guy.

My point was more to the fact that the Chiefs aren't going to be afraid to replace a couple tackles, if need be, in one off-season, when they just recently replaced nearly the whole damn O-Line two years ago.

Veach will do what he needs to do, with Andy's approval no doubt. But it will be what is in the best interests of the team and cap situation going forward. The Chiefs are not 'playing scared' in this situation.
