Nate Taylor: Chiefs expected to franchise OBJ again [not happening]

Quote:
Brown is technically the Chiefs’ top free agent, though for the second consecutive year, he might never reach the open market. Similar to last year, the Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on Brown, which will prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Such a move will allow both parties more time to negotiate a lucrative contract extension. If the parties cannot agree to a deal by the middle of July, Brown would once again be restricted to a one-year salary of $18.4 million, according to Over The Cap.

Quote:
The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes the Chiefs are "expected" to place the franchise tag on LT Orlando Brown again.

Brown played on the tag last year, briefly threatening to not report to camp before showing up on time. Since coming over for the Ravens in a trade, Brown has been stellar if not exceptional, and would probably profile as one of the five best free agents on the market if he got there. Taylor also writes that Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal with a $30.25 million signing bonus last offseason.
Not really new news...but he won't be hitting the open market at least.

2 1's and a 2nd for a non QB isn't worth it.

We move him for a 2nd (maybe Chicago's) and package that with ours. Those moves give us roughly 640 points as 276+360.

That, plus our own 600 points adds up to 1240-which puts us right outside the top 10.

See, not that hard. There's our replacement LT....provided we find one we like.
Yeah, it's so simple to find a trade partner and then gift them multiple 1's and 2's.

It's not even a discussion. As nice as Gay and Bolton are they're off ball LBs and both have some significant nicks in their game.

First off....why the **** are we worried about Jones? He's still under contract for another year. The only reason you're extending him this offseason is to lower his cap hit and have the money to sign guys. You could leave it alone and be just fine.

2024 - Yeah, you would have to make a decision on Gay, Sneed and Jones but you're also going to be gaining cap space because guys like MVS aren't going to be here. You could cut him and get $12 million in cap space. Before that we're already looking at $111 million in cap space. Obviously that's going to be lower with guys brought in this offseason but Veach has shown that he's going younger. It won't be a ton of huge contracts.

2025 - This is the year you've got Bolton coming up for a new deal. Guess who is probably gone? Thuney. That's $16 million in cap savings. Kelce will also be 36 and probably be looking to hang it up.

Holy ****. Stop acting like OBJ is suddenly going to **** up the Chiefs cap situation and make it so you can't sign ANYONE.

See...that's not hard. We only just spent 4 ****ing draft picks to MAYBE get a LT who is better than OBJ.

Yeah, this year's first and next year's first are the starting point for any trade.

You're not getting from 31 to 13, or anywhere even close, without two 1st round picks involved.

Well if they are able to pull of trading Orlando Brown Jr and replacing him with a decent rookie tackle then they would have a shit load of money to use

The super bowl he was lights out so I'll admit that

Are you ready to gamble a massive, massive guaranteed contract that Super Bowl OBJ is the one we're getting for the next 5 years?
Where are they currently being projected in the draft?

Yeah, you're completely wrong and mischaracterizing what has been said.

Nobody has said he's worth $140M. That's something you completely made up because you're 100% emotionally invested in them getting rid of him.

At any cost even.

Okay.

But we aren't trading away both OTs either. You guys seem to think top-15 OTs can be found at any participating Wal-mart or something.

Unless trading those two results in KC landing Trent Williams, that ain't going to happen. Veach and Andy aren't dumb enough to put themselves in the position where they have to find two new OTs in one offseason.

That's all I've heard too. The actual guaranteed part of the contract was the hold up. People make it sound like they negotiated for an entire offseason and never got close. That's just not what I understood to be true.
