Patrick is 27 years old next season with 6 seasons in the league, 5 as a starter and nearly 100 games played when you include the playoffs. He doesn't need a babysitter and probably gets little/no benefit from one at this point.

If that's the case (and I hope it is), I'd hope Giirardi is a guy we could use to actually develop a young backup. Then again, who's gonna be better at that sort of thing than Nagy and/or Reid at this point?
I don't think it's about babysitting anymore. It's about finding a guy who can truly hold the fort down. I was a fan of keeping Henne on the roster and I think it'd be good to bring in another veteran. Doesn't mean they can't develop someone, but we're a championship team and QB is the most important position.

Literally all 3 Super Bowls wouldn't have happened without the backup. Henne made huge drives both this year and in 2020 in the playoffs. And if Matt Moore doesn't beat a good Vikings team in 2019 we don't get a bye and have to go to New England and then maybe Baltimore. Now they could develop a young guy to that level, but whoever the backup is they need to be sure about him because it could tank a championship team if the backup QB isn't ready.

Henne and Moore were both clutch as nails, don’t get me wrong, but it’s time to put the timeless cliche, “trust the process” to the test.

We’ve done exactly that for just about every position at least once under Andy except for QB. Alex had Chase and even Foles.

Invest a little bit of draft capital at QB, coach them up, and trust that your scouting/coaching did its job

I wouldn’t mind if he stayed. But realistically I don’t think there’s much room for him to grow here since Nagy should be in place for a while. Unless they name him a senior assistant and/or make him a run or pass game coordinator and even still that’s not gonna be as attractive as a role with Washington. But let’s hope he stays.

But if Moore can literally walk off a High School field and complete some passes in this system, doesn't that suggest that maybe we're overstating the barrier to entry here?

If Matt Moore can do it, why can't Steve Buechele?

Or, more to my liking, Jaren Hall?

He wouldn't.

And the Chiefs most likely wouldn't want him anyway.

That didn't stop people on social media from wishing for it. Keep in mind, the vast majority of Chiefs fans I see on social media are the "God bless our Chiefs, I love our kicker!" types.

And has a smokeshow wife and a house on the beach.

Dude has an idyllic life. Why the hell would he want to go grinding playbooks for a guy who has lapped him twice after replacing him?

It's silly.
