One of our core jobs as a union is to improve the overall working conditions for our players, which includes the daily experience of players at the team facilities away from the lights and cameras.

1,300 of our players provided information to share with one another about their current club, to not only help them make important career decisions, but also help raise standards across the league.

Overview

The Kansas City Chiefs are ranked 29th overall in our team guide. In general, the results show that the facility feels outdated and players would like to see upgrades across the board. Only 56% of respondents believe that club owner Clark Hunt is willing to invest the money to upgrade the facility, ranking him 27th in this category.

Players’ responses showed that treatment of players also falls well below other clubs across the NFL. For example, the Chiefs are one of 6 teams that still make certain players have roommates, and less than 50% of players feel they have enough room to be comfortable on flights.

Feedback on the training room was also notable; player respondents called for a more welcoming environment, and several players had negative opinions about head trainer Rick Burkholder, feeling that he does not treat players fairly and consistently, or with personal care.

Responses to the survey called for things like “a more welcoming environment.”

With the lowest rating and concerning qualitative responses, we learned that players’ key concerns are with head trainer Rick Burkholder (not the rest of the training staff, which is generally well liked).
Player respondents expressed beliefs/opinions that:
They feel discouraged from reporting their injuries
They do not feel they get the level of personal care that they should
They fear retribution for speaking up for better care

There's an important note in one of those tables, where it says that the Chiefs rank 17th in strength coaches, but that's not bad because most teams rated them positively.

Ranking teams here is an inappropriate metric. It's the NFL. If 99 percent of players on 31 teams say that the training camp food is great, then the one team with 98 percent of players saying that ranks last. What teams should really be interested in is whether teams rate something high or low. I don't care if my team ranks last if 98 percent of them are happy. I do care if my team ranks 1st and 25 percent of them are happy.

That said, the seats on the planes aren't all first class? Really? I just assumed that all NFL teams were flying on planes that were all first-class seats. I'm pretty sure that such planes exist. And how many people are on Chiefs flights? If each player gets their own row the big guys can probably sit across two seats, and the only issue is leg room. I sure hope they're not flying players on Frontier Airlines.

They would almost have to be first class seats, or something very similar. OBJ isn't fitting in a coach seat.

I find it interesting how it targets Burkholder in terms of Athletic Staff. Didn't the guy win Athletic Trainer of the Year last year or the year before?

Also, I spent some time and read through their summarization of how they formed this... and this seems so open for misrepresentation. Anything that is "Rank this on a scale of 1 to whatever" is completely open to interpretation per the individual and doesn't really give anything qualitative.

Not surprised. KC has old facilities. Even remodeled, they're still small facilities. If you're going to places like Dallas, LA etc and seen their facilities, there's gonna be a lot to be desired when viewing KC.
