Nate Taylor: Chiefs expected to franchise OBJ again [not happening]

I've been negotiating contracts for past 30+ years. I know when a deal can get done and when it can't. There is absolutely no need to waste each other's time when it's clearly evident there's no deal to be had. You cut bait and move on.

Effectively ripping the band-aid off instead of dragging this on any further. Perhaps they've been told he won't sign the tag no matter what and the Chiefs are just taking his word for it and wishing him the best in his future endeavors.

I hate to admit this but, I really never believed OBJ was going to be here after this season. He wanted waaaay to much $$$$. He is NOT worth what he wants to be paid BUT, some team is going to pay him. Now we have free agency and the draft to get this ship straight. I believe in Veach and I'm sure he knew that a second franchise tag was never going to happen. Let's see what he cooks up. Chin up! We have been through this before.

The FA market is pretty barren at LT, I don't think they'll go that route. Especially with them saying they want the LT spot locked up long term this offseason.

I'd say it's either trade for one, or draft one.

Why let an average LT hamstring us, demanding so much money. It's not like we're letting a top 5 LT walk. He CAN be replaced.
