Nate Taylor: Chiefs expected to franchise OBJ again [not happening]

Quote:
Brown is technically the Chiefs’ top free agent, though for the second consecutive year, he might never reach the open market. Similar to last year, the Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on Brown, which will prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Such a move will allow both parties more time to negotiate a lucrative contract extension. If the parties cannot agree to a deal by the middle of July, Brown would once again be restricted to a one-year salary of $18.4 million, according to Over The Cap.

Quote:
The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes the Chiefs are "expected" to place the franchise tag on LT Orlando Brown again.

Brown played on the tag last year, briefly threatening to not report to camp before showing up on time. Since coming over for the Ravens in a trade, Brown has been stellar if not exceptional, and would probably profile as one of the five best free agents on the market if he got there. Taylor also writes that Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal with a $30.25 million signing bonus last offseason.
Not really new news...but he won't be hitting the open market at least.

Cardinals are definitely taking the best defensive player available.

Carter or Anderson.

You realize with the Cardinals that Humphries is 29 and had a season-ending back injury last year and they literally have nobody else signed on the line except backup Josh Johnson and a couple of UDFA types heading into this whole thing right? I'd put the chances of them going OT much higher than you do.

Bill probably isn't spending a 1st on an offensive weapon. Maybe he falls in love with JSN but other than that I don't see it.

Let's put it this way if you like Anton Harrison you can relax because he'll be there when the Chiefs pick, decent chance other ones will be too.

We have a realistic shot at getting a LT at 31. Harrison and or Wright are usually there. Duncan and Freeland are always there. Dawan Jones is also, he is a strong comparison to OBJ.

The LT needy teams, one of them is going to sign OBJ. Dropping another LT down the board.

If one of the guys Veach Loves drops into the 20s I could see a move up but I really think we will be able to get one at 31.

Maybe he needs a little help from the scheme for a while but we just won a Super Bowl with a guy like that.

I dont think anyone is excited about Dillard but its a realistic option that Mr. Heck COULD get him to produce at a decent level. its worth a try at a decent price, worst case he becomes the swing T.

I think there's just as good of a chance that Duncan is a good LT as there is one of the top 2 or 3 guys.

If we are gonna go with chips and help, take him in the 2nd and go from there.

If we're grading this on numbers...

Will Anderson is like a 98 and Paris Johnson is like an 87..that would be idiotic.

Highly doubt it, they're going to restructure Watson to open money.

They're 14 mil over and have already paid 3 of the 4 other OL high dollars.

Kinda wonder there.

If the Jets get Rodgers you can take them off the list.

No offensive tackle has logged more snaps than he has since 2015, and Smith underwhelmed for much of that span. However, Smith has managed to gradually increase his PFF grade in each of his seven NFL seasons, improving it from 62.5 as a rookie in 2015 to a career-best 80.5 overall grade in 2021.

I think he would be the top option if you're looking for a free agent.
