Nate Taylor: Chiefs expected to franchise OBJ again [not happening]

Quote:
Brown is technically the Chiefs’ top free agent, though for the second consecutive year, he might never reach the open market. Similar to last year, the Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on Brown, which will prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Such a move will allow both parties more time to negotiate a lucrative contract extension. If the parties cannot agree to a deal by the middle of July, Brown would once again be restricted to a one-year salary of $18.4 million, according to Over The Cap.

Quote:
The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes the Chiefs are "expected" to place the franchise tag on LT Orlando Brown again.

Brown played on the tag last year, briefly threatening to not report to camp before showing up on time. Since coming over for the Ravens in a trade, Brown has been stellar if not exceptional, and would probably profile as one of the five best free agents on the market if he got there. Taylor also writes that Brown turned down a six-year, $139 million deal with a $30.25 million signing bonus last offseason.
Not really new news...but he won't be hitting the open market at least.

unless the dude is the second-coming of Willie Roaf, it shouldn't happen.
Its always fun to watch Brown just stand there and give up once the play breaks down.

That shit is just weird. Sometimes, you can watch him just stroll around for ten seconds, like he's at the park or something, while the play keeps going.

Insert weird, random anecdote about a totally unrelated player thirty years ago here.

You know there are plenty rookie tackles that play fine right?

Doing what, and against who, exactly? Because yeah, if the team is going to run 55-65% of the time, sure let's go. If they're not facing actual top-10 EDGEs 4+ times a season, okay.

OBj was okay in BAL, but not so great for KC right out the gate, right? Maybe that had something to do with what he was asked to do?

Spot on. And those teams interested are going to look really closely at the whole season of play especially those 3 games we lost and realize he sucks against elite edge rushers just like Wiley.

Seattle started 2 rookie OTs last year, guess what they were fine.

It was an extreme example. Funny as shit though, at least if you were a Chief fan back then. That poor guy's helmet snapped back and forth like a hummingbird's wing between Neil Smith and Derrick Thomas. He probably should've just said '**** it,' and called a timeout.

But rookie LTs, screw it, rookies tend to get taken advantage of constantly in their first year. It's basically a rite of passage, and you're well aware of that. And OTs tend to get left on islands, do they not? Do we really want the protector of Mahomes' blindside to be a rook? A not top-10 pick rook? I'd rather that didn't happen, if I could choose.

I guess that depends on your definition of 'fine.'

Geno was sacked 46 times. Between SF, NOR, KC, LAR, LAC, and TB, Geno was sacked 21 times?

Andy and Brett see this also and not to mention all the scheming many of the good defenses did around OBJ to harass Pat. He does NOT have LT feet or agility it is just that simple.

It may well be the right choice, we'll have to see.

We have the most elusive pocket passer in the league. I'm not all that worried about starting a rookie LT.

Especially after we won the goddamn SB with 7 rookies taking significant snaps.

You know what, we're ****ed. You're right. We're going to tank. We're going to be the worst team in the AFC West. Guess this is the year for the Chargers after all.

We're going to be ****ing awful, and won't sniff the play-offs.
