So I believe is they do the veteran salary benefit, then the cap hit is only $940k.

I believe there's a cap on the total VSB benefit. So if they used some of it on Allegretti, the amount of the total cap benefit gained on Nnadi would be reduced accordingly.

Not sure how much it is but OTC shows this for Allegretti.

Nick Allegretti signed a one year, $2.582 million contract with the Chiefs. The contract is fully guaranteed and he will be treated as a four year qualifying player.

His cap hit $1.2 million.

Hmmm...I kinda feel like that's all of it.

Unless the tweet is referencing the 'ordinary' VSB rather than the 4-year player exception. Nnadi likely had so little value on the FA market that we probably could sign him under the standard VSB. So that makes some sense.

Yeah, I don't think that Nnadi got anything of value. He just wasn't getting any offers out there and the Chiefs are bringing him back as depth until camp. I don't even think he has a better than 50% chance of making the regular season roster at this point.

Yup, that checks out.

It must be the standard VSB where you get a pretty marginal break. It ain't much but I also don't think you need to guarantee anything like you do with the 4-yr.

It feels like Veach/Andy are basically saying that we're going to roll with below-average DTs (except CJ or course) in 2023. Maybe we draft a guy (in the late rounds I guess), but we're not actively going to go after one, either in the draft or FA.

Not a bad strategy, considering that there's not that much reason for our defense to have the greatest run-stuffing D when we have the lead so often, and teams usually have to pass to keep/catch up.

Also bolsters the idea that Veach is indeed hunting for some real weapons for the offense.

So in other words there is a cap hit and they aren't just "doing him a solid". Even if it's only a million bucks that's still 10% of their available cap space. That's not nothing.

Are you talking about Nnadi? It depends on what is guaranteed and where he is at contract wise at the start of the season. His contract could not be big enough to count in the top 51.

It's possible but I doubt it being that he's now a 6 year veteran.
