Not sure what's unclear about the fact that UConn took a significant step back as a program after Calhoun left. If Hurley can consistently build teams like he has this year, then we can have a conversation about them being upper tier again.

No easier path to a championship I the history of this tourney than this. UConn was never challenged.

Their backups would of win by 29 with all the frauds in the FF.

Or calling Eli Manning upper tier in 2011 after he won his 2nd SB. There are levels of consistency you need to reach to get considered at Tom Brady and Peyton Manning's level. Same goes for UConn.

No. They have ONE title since 1999. UCONN has FIVE. Who has more than UCONN in that time frame? (I honestly don't know the answer)

Calhoun also left UConn on probation and banned from the tournament in Ollie's first year.

I get that UConn doesn't have much consistent success prior to or after Calhoun, but there's literally only 4 programs that have had 3 coaches win at least 1 title. UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, and UConn.

I also think Hurley will be fine at UConn. He's further away from the mess Calhoun/Ollie left him with and they're back in the Big East, which should stabilize them for recruiting purposes as opposed to being in the American.

I wonder what would have happened if they played a healthy Self in the S16.

Do you love being wrong? Because 1990 UNLV had the highest average seed by round on the way to their title (9). UConn's was 6.3.

And? Doesn't change the fact that his UConn program was one of the best in the country while he was there and ceased being so as soon as he left.

Could be, very likely will be. But it's not easy to do what coaches like K, Self, Williams, Calipari and Wright have done over the past few decades. We will see if he can do it.

I'm not saying their route was the most challenging of all time, but they came from arguably the toughest region, took down the 8 seed that beat Kansas, and eviscerated Gonzaga in the Elite 8.

They also beat arguably the best team in the tournament in the regular season (Alabama).

Yes probably UConn would have won, but they never really had to play anybody good in this tournament that could even give them a challenge.
