Unexpected things happening, call it

Taken from the other thread, mocks always end up being pretty far off and a few teams do things out of left field.

Lets call some shots here of things that will happen that are unexpected.

I'll start, Keion White goes in the 1st round, I think it could be as early as 15 to Green Bay.

Maybe, but like the Chiefs, they've got a ton of picks, and they've picked up a nice WR and didn't drop significant coin on OBJ, even though they had the cap. They're being smart and prudent, even if you disagree with moving out of 1.1.

That is fairly expected.

Remember the Teven Jenkins hype train?

Is it all that crazy to think that Harrison may see a similar slide into the 2nd?

I mean that guy was going top 15-20 in a lot of mocks heading into the draft. The common refrain was that the Chiefs traded for OBJ because they had little confidence that Jenkins would fall to the back of the 1st and he was the only guy they reasonably believed could start at LT.

Then he slides all the way to the late 30s/early 40s.

And according to his own comments yesterday, they're moving him to LG for 2023.

He slid all that way and didn't even end up being a tackle at all, let alone a good one.

I'm confused. Are you talking about Anton? Because the quote you replied to is talking about Smith and White so I is confused.

Also, IIRC, Jenkins fell because of medical concerns.

Yeah, he just mentioned White having a slide out of the 1st round and it made me think of Jenkins.

Harrison has a similar feel in that there's not a consensus building around him. I'm not seeing any real rhyme/reason in his projections. I've seen anywhere from the 13 range all the way down to the low 50s.

Jenkins had a similar spread - he just didn't have that spread 'round these parts given that we needed an OT (until the trade) and he was the most obvious possibility at the back of the round.

There are some similarities in the draft posture heading in between Harrison and Jenkins.

I can definitely see Harrison making it to 31, and even us passing on him, so you're probably right. I do think it's more unlikely than likely though.

If team's really value his skill set, he'll go before 31. If he's available at 31, it's because teams don't see him as a sure fire LT. We see this every year. People say there's 5-6 left tackles available in the 1st round and invariably, 4 of those 6 guys change positions with their new teams. Many of them even move to guard, not even right tackle.

It's entirely possible that Harrison falls all the way to 31 and they simply pass him up. I believe that our chances of drafting an OT in the 1st are significantly less than not drafting one. I think we draft an OT like in the 3rd or 4th.

I just do not see the value in OT in the first round this year. It's just not there.

The only reason I see taking an OT early is to provide bookends for a wall to protect #15 for the next 4 years. Not a bad investment in my book. Taking a TE early might provide a successor to Kelce, but we already have 4 on the roster. Who do you let go? That boils down to Fortson and Bell. Gray has some upside we haven't tapped yet. I don't see a CB/S hybrid to take Sneed's place, either.

I guess I'll go with Clay buying a sporty new Murano.

I still think he's one of the top 3-4 players available if he's sitting there at 31 either way. I don't feel too strongly about it, but I'd be happy with the pick.
