*****2023 NFL DRAFT THREAD - NO SPOILERS*****

Version 2023 - PATRICK MAHOMES & THE HUNT FOR THE MIDDLE FINGER RING

Let's ****ing do this.

Quote:
Rules for once the draft begins:
  1. No spoiled picks in this thread, all weekend. This means that as tweets are leaking picks a few minutes before the selection is announced live, you don't post it in this thread (ex: embedded tweets), reference it in this thread (ex: Joe Slapdick says it's So and So to Green Bay) or hint at it (ex: "it's a RB!").
  2. Don't be a dick.
Otherwise, have fun, talk shit, freak out and lose your goddamned minds. It's Draft Weekend. The hot takes in these threads are so funny. I'll also be starting player threads for each of our picks as they are made, with videos and notable stats/takes in the OP. These separate threads will be made as soon as the news breaks, outside of this thread. I will link the threads below. Pure knee-jerk gold to reference in the future.

Here are our picks:

Round 1, #31: Felix Anudike-Uzomah
Round 2, #55: Rashee Rice
Round 3, #92: Wanya Morris
Round 4, #119: Chamarri Conner
Round 5, #166: BJ Thompson
Round 6, #194: Keondre Coburn
Round 7, #250: Nic Jones

Here is a list of the prospects the Chiefs have shown interest in this year.

Chamarri (pronounced chuh-MAR-ee) Conner went to Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida, winning state titles in his first three seasons. As a true freshman at Virginia Tech, he played in all 13 games off the bench (13 tackles) before taking over the starting nickel spot in 2019, leading the Hokies with 5.5 sacks and adding 68 tackles, 10 for loss, one interception and eight pass breakups. Conner was an honorable mention All-ACC pick as a junior in 2020, pacing his squad with 81 stops (3.5 for loss), intercepting two passes and breaking up four others in 11 starts. He started all 13 games in 2021, again garnering honorable mention all-conference honors (85 tackles, 5.5 for loss with two sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles). Conner started all 11 games in his fifth season (67 tackles, two for loss, two pass breakups). -- by Chad Reuter

Strengths
Four-year starter and two-time team captain.
Has experience as a big nickel and true safety.
Able to line up over slot tight ends.
Quality eye balance as a zone defender.
Swoops around receiver’s frame to challenge the catch point.
First to land hands against blockers in space.

Weaknesses
Angles to the football can be a little risky.
Below average body control as an open-field tackler.
Subpar quickness sticking with break points in man.
Will be outclassed by speed.
Lacks ideal burst to close out the route.
Doesn’t turn and find the football often enough.

And with Brooks and Kuntz still on the board, I really don't understand the pick.
The guy played 800 ST’s snaps in college. Dave Toub’s ST’s we’re ass mostly bc of rookies who didn’t have experience (Skyy, McDuffie).

Not gonna find many athletic DTs or TEs past Brooks and Kuntz. Just seems out of character for a GM that typically games the hell out of talent tiers.
No. It suggest that they really liked and wanted this guy so they got him.

They must think their board has been compromised... Or something... With all these trade ups. There's just no need to do that when there's better players still on board that teams are more interested in. I'm happy they got who they wanted, but they need to stop wasting picks.

They have tiers of rankings and instead of waiting they are likely circling the guy they want and going to get him.

Or they think OTHER teams have boards that they've compromised and know how far they need to move up to get guys they really want.

"wasting picks" lol that is what all those extra picks are for. Moving up for someone you believe in.

It's literally how Veach has drafted so well, it's his thing. I love it, I'm definitely not Team Soren Petro who just wants to throw numbers at the draft because he actually doesn't know who is going to be good.

Veach has guys he wants and then goes and gets them. And then whoa Nelly stop me if you've heard this, they help win playoff games immediately and keep the roster budget manageable.
