Who’s had a colonoscopy?

They also recommend a "white diet" the day before you do the cleanse. It's literally what it sounds like - white foods. Supposedly it helps clean you out more thoroughly and makes the process easier for the doctor and shows more up your chute.

I just got one last week. I feel like the prep was easier than it was the first time I did it. I got a hunger headache for a while, but once I started on the liquid diet it was actually surprisingly easy.

The bad news is that they moved me up to a 3-year cycle. .

The prep sucks but when they find a sessile serrated polyp that doesn’t show up any other way and you avoid colon cancer (my experience) it balances out.

that shit they give you called GoLytely does anything but that. if my neighbor's house had been on fire, I could have put that bastard out from my bathroom window had I been backed up to it.

I had a couple small pollups cold snared off, so I'm on a 3 year schedule and this fall is my 3 year anniversary so I've got to go back in a couple months. its the best nap you'll have, but the fire hydrant ass the day before is not fun.

I did a Cologuard a couple of years ago and it came back good but I asked my doctor a couple of weeks ago since I am now 52 if I should do a colonoscopy. He said no need since my Cologuard was good. Ok then..

He did tell me the older you get the risks go down for colon cancer that is why they lowered the test age to 45. Thought that was interesting and hope he is not an idiot.

I get colonoscopy updates around home sometimes, wife is an endoscopy nurse. I've never heard what you posted before. Risk goes up with age and more younger people have positive tests, from what I've understood.

I was an Endoscopy RN for 4 years. 100% of what that MD said sounds wrong. Cologuard is an "ok" diagnostic tool, but it is not the gold standard by any means. There are false negatives a lot with that test. If you are 50+ you need a colonoscopy, end of sentence. If its clear then you don't have to get one for another 10 years (depending on family history.) As you age your risk goes up not down. Once you hit 85 you don't have to get them anymore because colon cancers grow very slowly, and the probability is you will pass away before a cancer would grow.

My brother did that Cologuard and got a positive result for cancer; which is what prompted him to go in for a colonoscopy that was negative.

Thanks and I will make sure to tell him I need one. I thought it sounded strange when he said that and I don't think I misunderstood him.

In regards to Cologuard I have read there is alot of false positives but haven't heard much about false negatives. Thanks for the info

I've had two colonoscopies now. The day before is pretty inconvenient, but survivable. I slept through the procedure itself. They said count down and I dont even remember starting. The first time I was behind schedule on coming out of anesthesia. I vomited in the driveway when I got home and was out of it all day. The second time I had no problems at all. I asked them to put that "New Car" smell in there, but they must have forgot.
