Florida peeps. Prepare for this storm!

Looks like it may intensify quickly in the hot gulf waters. We haven’t been hit in the Bay Area in a long ass time. Gonna be rough most likely. Stay safe peeps!

There were two of them (Frances and Jean) that hit right in a row in St Pete/Tampa when I was living their in 2004, IIRC. They both went came from the east coast and crossed over the state to Tampa. I think that was the same year Charley was going to hit them directly but went inland around Pt Charlotte.

Everybody helps pay part of the losses. People that live in those areas could not afford premiums, if they were even available, if part of the expenses were not spread across all insurers.
The same for New Orleans and so on.

Lived in Kansas for about 95% of my life and I've never seen a tornado much less had any damage to my home from one. Tornadoes are not very predictable and really effect a small area when they do hit a major city. Tornadoes that are 1 mile wide are very rare.

It generally affects the people that live anywhere near the beach or intracoastal more than anyone else. Unfortunately the insurance companies make everyone in the state pay extra. They also raise car insurance rates to make up for for all of the home insurance claims. There's getting to be just a handful of companies that will even write new claims in Florida.

Wrong forum, but insurance companies closing up shop is maybe the surest sign that climate change is real.

Wow, that's a knuckle ball trajectory for a hurricane if I ever saw one.

Stay safe.

Tornado has a path that is generally less than a mile wide. Most hurricanes are hundreds of miles wide, this particular one is projected at 500 miles wide overall with the eye at almost 150 miles wide. HUGE difference. Another huge difference is the value of the land and homes on average between Kansas and Florida.

Florida actually gets tornadoes as well so I’m familiar with the differences.

For the record, hurricanes are not very predictable either. I’ve lived in Central Florida for nearly 20 years and I’ve never had to evacuate or experienced damage to my residence. Some years we don’t have any storms, major or minor, come through.

I’m familiar with hurricanes, yes.

A majority of this country is subject to some form of natural disaster or another.. I suppose we can all move to Tennessee or Nevada where we’ll be safe from hurricanes, wildfires, volcanoes, and blizzards?

These storms usually affect my business so we watch them fairly closely. Watching the Weather channel the last several years every storm has become apocalyptic.

Its a big issue. The state is going to have to take it over eventually.

I live directly on the water. My flood insurance(only covers hurricane water damage) went from $1200 or so to $5100 yearly. My regular house insurance(which also covers wind and damage from a hurricane) went from $2500 to $7,300. To be fair, most of these companies left after 1 hurricane. It's Florida, how long do you think you can collect premiums and not pay out to your clients?

I'm getting older now could retire if I chose to but making too much money to retire. But, its coming soon. When that happens I don't know if I'm staying on the water because of these rising rates once I'm on a fixed income in retirement.
