Andy Reid’s worst season with the Chiefs was 9-7. The only time he’s missed the playoffs here. He’s never finished worse than 2nd in the division.

The team is still talented enough to grab a wildcard. Winning in the playoffs depends on the draw, but wouldn’t be likely.

Chargers would almost certainly take the division.

Also, without Mahomes, the Chiefs have better draft picks and more cap space.

You aren’t winning in the playoffs without a high level QB. We know that all too well.

I’m just saying Reid with this roster is probably still winning 9 games. He’s that good of a coach. The roster itself is pretty solid across the board.

One problem with these measures of WAR - which people still can’t agree on for football - at a time like this is that we’re not replacing him with average level replacement players. We could easily be replacing him with negative WAR contributors. Is Coburn going to be an average DT? We know about Nnadi. Farrell was going to be released by Oakland. Plus, we likely need to change a lot of what we do on defense to manufacture pressure in other ways which creates voids elsewhere. It’s just a lot more pressure on the rest of the defense and other blind spots created, and that’s not something that WAR is going to be good at capturing.

I think it’s insane to feel like having him or, say, some combination of Danna/Wharton is nearly immaterial to our end of season record.

This is it. We'll win a lot of games without him but he is the "force multiplier" on D people love to talk about, and really the only one. Him being out isn't completely inconsequential
