So, apparently their DC is Aaron Glenn, a coach right off the Fangio/Parcells tree. However, in DET land, they say he likes to run a lot of man, single high S. So not a lot of two-high shell. Of course, I'll bet a stack of hundreds as tall as me that he tries to disguise his looks often, but he's going to run a lot of man, probably.

So this might be a better test than I originally thought, especially if they try to jam our WRs a lot. Should be a good test to start the season.

Decent analogy, nothing really to debate. Just like to add that we are so young and deep on D, we don't even know what to expect, especially in your house. This D is totally different from the first half of last season. Sure it will be heavy rotation on all three levels. If we are still in it in the fourth quarter, I'll feel pretty good.

I'm pretty sure it'll be a close game. If I bet the game, I'd probably pick the under. A lot depends on just how physical your DL/OL play, imo. If they come out firing, the way they did in the couple games i saw last season (sometime after Week 14?), they'll be a tough out for KC. Your guys were really violent at the snap in those games. Was fun to watch.

I think it'll be high scoring, especially if Jones isn't in there. Goff looked like a legit QB for the first time in a long time towards the end of last year, and if we can't pressure him without blitzing they're gonna score on us. Could end up being a shootout.

Ah, yeah, I agree. I had a brainfart; i meant I'd bet DET to cover, not the Under. If CJ doesn't play, I have a feeling it's going to be a little bit of a shootout. Maybe even if he does; he probably isn't in game shape yet.

Just checked: Goff was 3rd in the NFL last season vs. the blitz. That seems like a typo to me, as I remember him being kind of shitty vs. the blitz back in 2019. But everyone's reporting that he was the 3rd best QB vs. the blitz last year.

Blitzes only work if you get home. Lions O-line has elite level athleticism. The pocket Jared had to work with last year was a thing of beauty. They line is healthy and strong right now, without having to double CJ they should keep Goff clean all game.

If you blitz heavy and leave ASB one on one Goff will find him all day.

I agree re: Blitzes. That's standard. You have to disguise and get on the QB quickly, while doing things on the back end to muck things up.

Spagnuolo is one of the best around at just that.

Goff is very accurate from a clean pocket and when things are on schedule. If things break down, he doesn't have mutant physical gifts to just make something happen (Allen, Hurts, Mahomes, Herbert, Jackson) or unbelievable calm and poise (Burrow, Rodgers).

Which is why he's in that next group of QBs.

Chiefs will have to shine at disguising and have some good wrinkles for dealing with the gap scheme of the Lions' run game. One thing they've used against gap in the past is lining up a LB in the 0 gap to force the C to engage head-on rather than double-teaming and then working downfield.

I am intrigued to see if KC trots out a modified 3-3-5 without Jones that features Bolton flanked by Chenal and Gay, who have speed and power to function like a DE in the run game.

Yeah, Andy has been scheming new stuff all off-season. He likes to test drive the new concepts in week 1 to make sure they are good with the new personnel. Then he wraps them up and puts them away for critical situations and the playoffs. Week 1 is the one week all year when we can count on seeing a good portion of the play book.
