I know emotions are running a little high right now but I’m honestly fine with him leaving next season. If our offense still looks amazing (aside from Kelce) I think Veach over old declining players is the way to go.

That's not possible. People need to figure this out: the Chiefs' defense will be significantly different without Chris Jones in the middle of that line. In both the passing game and the run game. Spags said out loud in his presser right after the SB that the defense was built around CJ. CJ is the pass-rush, and he is the run-stopper. With him, the D is ranked in the top-12, without him they're in the bottom 5.

The middle of our DL without CJ is currently populated by NO ONE, until Omenihu returns after Week 6. NO ONE that can consistently generate pressure on the QB, or even draw a double-team. No one that can stuff the run either.

i mean, think about it: how different does the 49ers defense look without Bosa? How about the Bills defense without VM? They literally went from being something like a top-5 pass-rushing DL to dead last the second VM got hurt.

The Chiefs defense may not collapse, but it will definitely, 100%, look different, and they will miss Chris Jones dearly until he returns to the locker room.

You could argue that he's as valuable or even more valuable than either of those guys. He's damn sure more important to the overall play of the defense and has way more double teams and around the same amount of pressures. ****ing Nick Bosa is gonna get more than Donald, so I'd say the market definitely says he's worth. $27-$28 should more than get it done.
Imagine comparing Chris Jones to Nick Bosa and TJ Watt. Then imagine doing that and calling anyone else on this board stupid. You're a special kind of reerun dilphag9, the fanboy.

Watt is the NFL regular season sack record holder, and Bosa is a 25 year old defending DPOY coming off back to back double digit sack seasons.

TJ Watt has 4 straight seasons of double digit sacks, injury prevented a 5th straight.

Watt and Bosa are consistent quarterback destroying monsters.

Jones has had a couple seasons of double digit sacks, with a 3 season gap between them in the regular season, in which Jones jumps off the screen. In the playoffs, the guy has some batted balls and a couple sacks against some Bengal backups to his credit in almost a full season worth of post season contests.

This holdout is Jones trying to capitalize on a great season, because history has shown that in his prime he wasn't consistently destroying qbs, and at age 29 going forward, reality doesn't mesh with him keeping up what he did last season for the next 3-4, which is what would be required to demand this number.

In a couple months if he follows through with this holdout, Jones will learn the same thing Tyreek learned.

We liked having you.

We would have preferred to keep you.

We don't ****ing need you to get where we want to be.

Imagine the chances are slim to none that he’s playing on Thursday night if he doesn’t report today.

Can’t believe we find ourselves in this situation. Definitely going to make it a more dramatic game and more memorable win if we’re able to pull it out.

I think I’d be okay if he reported now (okay, fun and games are over) or if he reported in week 8 (really principled stance - perhaps stupid but he stuck to his guns and knowingly cost himself a bunch of money). It’s if he watches a few games and sees that the team can survive without him and then realizes that he’s lost all leverage and then reports that he will really go to being one of the Chiefs players I historically like least.

Assuming he’s acting rationally that’s got to be his strategy at this point.

From the Chiefs perspective they have to be willing to take on water and refuse to cave. Otherwise what’s the point bc I expect the defense to struggle without him and they should too.

Totally agreed. There’s probably some room for compromise today on the Chiefs part, but I hope the team doesn’t bend an inch based on anything that happens during the season.

A DT that gets double teamed consistently by C and guard not chipped by an RB or te and he it’s not always obvious where the double will coming from , 15 sacks is pretty impressive while also being solid vs the run .

Our D will absolutely be much worse , as someone who became a Chiefs fan originally because of the defense it would be nice to actually have a dominant one for a couple of years to pair with the best QB ever to see what happens, I though this year would have had a chance to just decimate the rest of the NFL , but this ****er had to ruin it and potentially hurt our team mentally at the same time, I’m pissed.

First two weeks will tell us a lot. Lions and Jags are good offense but not at Cinci or Bills level. If we can't stand up to them, that increases Chris's leverage. If we allow 21 points or less, then Chris will feel the heat and be forced to come back and have good numbers in order to get the contract he wants from another team next season. But in that scenario, that also lowers our trade leverage.

I'm starting to think they don't want CJ at the opener at all. Would spoil the party so to say. Cuz you just know the fans within ear shot will let him hear it.
