? LAC OL wasn't that good, were they? Herbert finished 8th most sacks given up, 1st in knockdowns, 11th in poor passes thrown when pressured, 2nd most hurries . . .

The Chargers OL statistically wasn't very good at all?

Since when did our fans get so obnoxious that they somehow believe we have a birthrite to win these games when we're missing our best defensive player?

The spread is 6.5. If you'd like to actually bet, we can do that to make it interesting.

I mean, apples and oranges brah.

The Lions were coached by an entirely different coach and had a different QB.

It was a trap game, on the road, sandwiched between two big-ticket games.

Considering how excellent the Chiefs have been off bye weeks with Andy Reid, and how good the offense is overall, of course Chiefs fans are confident.

So his franchise tag number for 2024 is 120% of his 2023 salary cap hit of $28.3 million?

So if the Pro Football Talk numbers that Chiefs are offering $74 million for 2023, 2024 and 2025 are true, why would anybody say the Chiefs are making an offer that the player should accept?

If Jones just played at his 2023 salary and workout bonus of $20 million and gets $32.5 million under 2024 franchise tag, he gets $52.5 million for 2023 and 2024 and if he is tagged for 2025, the Chiefs would have to pay him 144% of 32.5 million which would be $46.8 million. So Jones would get $33.1 m AAV if tagged twice.

So if Jones never asks for extension, Chiefs would have to pay him $26.75 AAV for 2023 and 2024 if they involuntarily extend him once with franchise tag.
And Chiefs would have to pay him $33.1 m AAV for 2023, 2024 and 2025 to involuntarily extend him twice with franchise tag.

So the Chiefs offer according to Pro Football Talk is less than $25 million AAV.

In retrospect, Jones should have never asked for extension and played 2023 for $20 million and get an insurance policy to replace prospective pay lost to serious injury.

So all the pro-front office and anti-Jones people need to explain why the Chiefs did not straight out tell Jones from the very beginning that his best option would be to just play out his 2023 contract because their best offer for 2023, 2024, and 2025 would be a million lower than lower than the AAV he would get if Chiefs franchise tagged him in 2024. And their best offer would be $8.1 million lower AAV if the Chiefs tagged him twice.

There is no excuse for Chiefs stringing Jones along. Chiefs could have put a deadline on the offer of start of OTAs, so that Jones could earn his $500,00.00 workout bonus and just played out 2023 with his own personal insurance policy.

Jones best move would be to report and play out his 2023 deal and no longer participate in any extension talks.

If anybody in this thread is saying that if they were Jones' agent they would advise their client to take that deal detailed in Pro Football Talk, they should explain why they think it is a better deal for Jones than playing out 2023 and stopping negotiations altogether.

Chiefs are basically demanding a hometown discount from a player that they strung along. They could have been upfront and said that the extension is less AAV than what he would get if he did nothing but show up and play.

I love Veach, but TBH, the only communication he had with Jones camp before the press conference that this thread is based on was probably a heads up to Jones agent that they would put him on reserve/not reported.

Dude, come on. Of course I get that Chiefs fans should be confident. I think we’ll win the game without Chris Jones. OP is attacking that I wasn’t 100% certain that we would prevail.

This has been his MO constantly in this thread any time I’ve explained that our margin for error even with Jones isn’t infinite.

And for the record, I’m not sure I’d characterize the game against the Brissett-led Colts the following week as “big ticket.” But the point remains: this team has very often played down to competition over the years even at full strength. So to just hand waive that this is a real game seems silly.

Not sure where you’re getting the “Chiefs strung him along” line but the Chiefs are giving him new money worth $27.5M per year.

CJ knows no one is giving him $30+ when he’s 32.

He wants the security of the guarantees. And the Chiefs want the security of not being on the hook for a contract he is unlikely to play up to once he’s north of 32.

That’s what makes his strategy of only taking $10M for half a season (after lost paychecks and penalties for missing training camp) so stupid. He’s simultaneously reducing his future year tag number and losing money next year too.

This has been gone over ad nauseum in the past 890 posts…

Yeah, Arrowhead was oddly quiet that game. Ohhh that's right. Game was on the road in Detroit.

Do you recall it took a random 99yd fumble recovery for a TD? And then a late 4th quarter drive?

Due to the most hilarious case of fumblitis by Watkins and the rest of the receivers. Something that happens quite regularly. Right?

Aren't you the one who finds Andy Reid a fraudulent coach?

Jesus it's a toss up who is more reeruned, you or dilphag9.

Criticizing Andy Reid for gaffes, and stating his embarrassing post season history really pisses you homers off.

Is it my fault that Andy lost more post season contests in which he was favored to win than any coach in history?

Is it my fault he presided over two of the worst playoff collapses in post season history?

These things happened. They happened because he dud not do the best job in those games. Referencing his history when it comes to saying it is irrelevant whether KC under Andy is favored to win isn't some cheap shot. It's merely fact. Your hero was quite adept at post season pant shitting during his career. Get over it.

That said Dan Campbell cant hold Andys playsheet.

The Lions were inches away from making the playoffs last season, yet we lost to the Colts who were one of the worst teams in the league.

Yeah your hero had a big hand in that. Your lord and savior, black Jesus Cj95. Sacked Ryan to end the game, taunted for first down, did **** all to stop Ryan from tossing game winning td.

Ah. The lord giveth, and the lord taketh away, right?

We also nearly lost to the Broncos, Texans, and Titans with Malik Willis at QB.

So are we talking about what teams almost did? Does that count for things now? Is this up there with Megatrons hand wringing about not winning by double digits?

Since when did our fans get so obnoxious that they somehow believe we have a birthrite to win these games when we're missing our best defensive player?

Because Chris Jones is not the reason we win football games. He is not the reason Mahomes will continue to pile up MVPs and Lombardis. He's not.

The spread is 6.5. If you'd like to actually bet, we can do that to make it interesting.

Big ****ing deal. Andy doesn't call plays to beat the ****ing spread. He calls them to win the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs, barring catastrophic injury to Patrick Mahomes, will defeat the legendary non playoff contender Detroit Lions.

Imagine thinking Mahomes will lose at home in September the night we hang a banner, to the Detroit Lions.

Imagine.

He has the option of showing up whenever he wants and getting paid his full game check for using the showers and watching practices until the coaches put him in to play.

I adore Chris Jones and always will. We merely find ourselves in a situation where we disagree, much like when my friends and I disagree on whether to get the onion rings or the nachos at a sports bar. We'll work past it and will be just as happy as ever.

He wanted to be treated like an important player who has performed at a HOF level.

He did not say anything about wanting security from guarantees.

The dude has been in the building since 2016. They know him better than that.

It kinda seems like the moron Wallcrawler doth protest too much.
