You will be right if in his absence over the next 7 (?) games there isn't a single close one that we lose where the dominant narrative is "we had no pass rush and really missed Chris Jones." My point has never been that Jones can't be replaced and this team can't thrive. It has always been that being asked to replace his production with Omenihu out and without the ability to replace him with adequate resources reduces the already thin margin of error that even the best teams in the NFL have.

Most of us can also understand CJ95 wanting a new deal. All of us want him to get one. Even though he was set to be the 3rd highest non QB in football.

I don't think I do. Chiefs have already paid him a huge chunk of change. He is under contact for what counts $28 million against the cap this season. This team is in transition to the mid-Mahomes era. Jones was a huge part of the first third of the Mahomes era. We can't afford to be hamstrung in our abilities to continue to add/keep the transition pieces going forward.

Yes, he counts 28mm against the cap this season but only because his cap hit his first 2 years were 15mm and 8.5mm.

I’d love it if he accepted the deal the Chiefs offered and had shown up on time. Only having to commit to the guy through his year 31 season and then being free and clear seemed like a great way to not overburden ourselves and maximize our window with one of the best defensive players in the game.

I’m pretty sure we have one of the top-3 youngest defenses in football right now. This is exactly the guy you do spend money on in that middle of that imo.

Veach has offered a more than fair deal. Take it or leave it. Can't start mortgaging the future on one chess piece unlesss that chess piece is Mahomes.

He’s been nothing but a great teammate and leader. I agree, it’s a pride thing above all. He got bad advice from his agent and now he’s hit a point of no return where he can’t accept our reasonable offer without swallowing a lot of his pride.

It’s not just us. I don’t know if we’ve see an offseason with this many holdouts. It’s the offseason where QBs have swallowed up an enormous amount of payroll. We just can’t afford to pay other positions the way we used to.

Teams were hampering themselves with large QB contracts before Mahomes came on the scene.
