Interesting and timely. I just blew out my left elbow 5 days ago. I did the normal methodology of ice for the first few days, then heat.
I just received some nice hot/cold elbow braces in the mail today. I thought, what the heck, I haven't done cold for awhile, let's take it for a spin. I popped it in the freezer for awhile and had just slipped it on as I opened your thread. I took it off 1/2 way through the vid. I had heard a little bit about the topic. So is heat good? Promotes blood flow? Thus more of igf-1? Thanks for posting. Last edited by Holladay; 09-19-2023 at 04:17 PM.. |

If this guy is correct hopefully it gets out because there are a lot of people blowing money on ice tubs these days.

My massage therapist says the same thing. I had tendonitis in my left foot and was icing it, but she said heat makes the blood flow into the tendons and tissues which brings oxygen helping the tendonitis to heal. She also said the icing at first helps the swelling but that the swelling is the body's mechanism to protect against the injury. I didn't have swelling with the tendonitis but I had twisted my ankle a while back and had been icing that to help swelling. The body is amazing at fixing itself she says.
The theory goes that ice helps inflammation. Sometimes you have to switch back and forth. |

☝ what he just said. I have a degree in sports medicine. You have to treat acute and chronic injuries differently. If it’s an acute ….meaning sharp pain and lack of movement….then ice first. We believe that because that’s a way of removing blood that needs replenished blood. Once you remove the “old” blood…then your body send replenished blood back to the area that provides the nutrients and oxygen needed for repair. For chronic injuries…it’s a little different. We hold off on ice and suggest heat depending on the type of injury. But I’m most cases…heat with increase blood circulation and allow that person to get back to performing more quickly. I will say though…it’s still believed that ice will promote better blood to to area more than heat. Think about it this way….cold makes the blood run to your core…think about your fingers here….once that blood is gone and you heat back up…..new blood fully oxygenated returns to that area and feed those tissues what they need.
I’m not discounting this post…however I am say there is a purpose for cold and heat |

I've never been injured before. Like not bad. I think I am Bruce Willis on Unbreakable and just haven't figured it out yet.

Hey what about muscle recovery after a workout?
I'm training for a 550 mile bike ride and riding 100 miles Saturdays and 60 miles Sundays up hills, over mountains etc. Plus 80 miles spread over three rides during the week. My legs are really sore and achy for days after the big days, even with two rest days and stretching and massage and hot tubs. I'm eating 150g of protein per day (1.5g per kilogram of body weight). advice welcomed. Antifreeze comments will not be replied to. |

Nothing personal, but I don't buy 'torn hamstring' because IF he truly tore it NO WAY is he doing this kind of weight training in just 4 weeks. NOW if he just strained his hammy then that is believable. Torn ??? NO WAY !!!

Ice baths are great for activating the "brown fat" within you that eats the white toxic "visceral fat" that surrounds your gut and vital organs.

My grandpa used to spray WD-40 on his joints. Said it lubricated them up so he felt better. I'm sure there were no cancerous agents.
