Offensive Tackles

I'm not going to overreact as it's only been 2 games but boy has their play has been meh at best. I'm not too worried about Taylor as I am Smith who looked like a declining player in Tampa. Everyone says it was because he was injured and maybe he still is but this has to get better if we're going to repeat as champs

Take a look at the RT on this drive. Dude made EXTRA sure he wasn’t going to get flagged for illegal formation lol he’s damn near closer to the line than Trey Smith!

Taylor doesn’t even have to be that far up to avoid these calls, though.

Would it really make you feel better if I was in here crying about how unfair it is? I’m not going to do that.

We know the way Jawaan is going about this is drawing the attention of the officials. He can keep doing what he’s been doing and risk being flagged in the worst possible situations (which has happened a couple times already) or he can just move himself up a half a foot. If we need to have a back chip on the way out to help him out then that’s what it’s gotta be.
Or you know, the NFL can choose either call it consistently for everybody, or not at all.

But yea, Taylor is the problem here 3 weeks in even after making adjustments!

Andy and Pat are "crying" about to to the media too I guess. Not like those guys are reasonable.

“Yeah, he lines up illegally, but so do other tackles.” does nothing. We’ve known this so you are crying about it. I wouldn’t say Pat and Andy are, though. They did exactly as they should. They ran an experiment and gathered evidence that they will no doubt send to the league for review.

I’ll give Taylor some credit. He did seem to get a handle on all the pre-snap movements and quick starts, but he is clearly still having issues with alignment.

The hilarious thing is that he stopped with the rocking back and forth and near-false starts and didn’t even look any worse for it. He’s clearly a serviceable tackle at the very least. Dude just needs to line up a bit closer to the LoS and we’ll be good to go.

Or, ya know, he can keep doing what he's doing and allowing the refs to pick and choose when to flag us at the worst possible times..

Your argument/take made sense after the first 2 weeks, but after clearly making adjustments since, it is obvious that Taylor is being unfairly targeted to the point that he was called for being Jawaan Taylor yesterday.

This doesn't make you sound any more reasonable or smart, you're just being a dumbass contrarian at this point.

You know Andy is pissed about it because he never calls out the officiating. If they indeed set up other tackles to align the same way to see the reaction that is some next level chit right there.

It was completely BS and I hope them calling it out causes some changes.

On the TD and another time he was flagged...he had a receiver tight to him..it was literally like if the side official couldn't blatantly see him they assumed he was off the line and threw a flag.

The problem is that the officials are now using guilty until proven innocent with him.

I don't think it's clear at all that he WAS lined up illegally yesterday. Not even with the 'blind eye' treatment. I think the officials couldn't quite tell because he was covered by a WR so they called it because he looked like he might be.

The holds against Jacksonville were egregious, especially the 2nd one. Those were plays where the officials just decided he must have held even though there's just no basis for the call.

They're deciding he's committing a penalty unless they can convince themselves he isn't. That shit's backwards.

It's not even about how he's treated relative to other OTs (though yes, that's absolutely horseshit). It's about how the rulebook is applied to him period.

And you're happy to let them do it. "Who cares if he's technically within the letter of the rules - be MORE legal..."

That's asinine.

YES.

This is exactly what I'm saying.

When the officials aren't sure, they flag him. And I think they were absolutely ****ing wrong on the TD.

There was no way at all for the official to say that he wasn't lined up correctly because he couldn't actually see him. So instead of saying "Well I don't know that he's lined up too far back, so I'm not going to flag it" he said "Well I'm not positive that he ISN'T so I'm going to flag it..."

It's horseshit.
