A Level Headed Review Week 4 2023

I'll preface this weeks review with the fact I was unable to watch the 3rd Q.

1. Isaiah Pacheco - his vision just keeps getting better and better. I have been waiting for him to break a long TD run. Seemed like he was always one defender or one juke away from breaking a long TD. We saw that tonight with an amazing lead block by Smith. 100+ yards on the night was really the workhorse of the game. I feel like he will be a 1200 back for us this year.

2. Patrick Mahomes - 2 Interceptions that just didn't make a whole lot of sense, the fumble on the snap 1st down was pure luck. But Patrick being Patrick puts the team on his back when it really counts and runs for 25 yards on 3rd and 23 and again on 3rd and 10 at the end of the game. Screw the score slide down and drain the clock. Love watching Patrick extend plays but I feel like the Jets played the back yard ball well tonight.

3. Defense - Not sure what happened but early on the Defense was dominating and as the game went on they seemed to regress until the 4th quarter. It was almost like maximum effort in the 1st and 4th Quarters and sleep walking in the 2nd and 3rd. Chiefs got lucky on some dropped TD passes and a missed FG. Wharton being Johnny on the spot with the fumble recovery really sealed the NYJ fate. Brian Cook had a nice open field tackle on the Hall run and Mike Edwards almost had a nice pick.

4. Offense- gotta clean up the holding, work on some red zone scoring - none of the WR's are getting open. Not sure what the problem is but our leading receivers were Kelce (60 yards), Pacheco (43 yards), Gray (34 yards), Rice (32 yards) and Toney (22 yards). This is unacceptable. MVS, Watson, and Moore all just disappeared in the passing game. There was no respect for our WR's they were playing man most of the night their secondary was keeping our WR's in check for the most part. I'll admit I had no idea that any offensive penalty in the End Zone was a Safety - I thought it was only holding - even thought the face mask was initiated outside the End Zone the refs decided to give the Safety anyway.

5. Washington again did a phenomenal job on punts. After the first game and last season it's nice to have some solid play at the PR position.

6. I'll need to rewatch the game but surprisingly no illegal formation calls. Not sure if that was our adjustment or the league got the message from Andy.

7. Mecole Hartman didn't get any receptions. Not sure how many snaps he played but he isn't really factoring into the NYJ Offense.

Did anyone actually expect us to throw all over that defense? C'mon, it's probable the best secondary in the league.

I knew they had a good secondary, I just didn't think they would stymie us that well.

I thought they'd do better than 7 catches, 65 yards and 0 TDs. I don't know what I expected exactly, but I expected more than that.

Some thoughts:
  • Taylor (the RT not Travis's girlfriend) is killing the team with his penalties. He's a marked man and needs to act as one.
  • Why is Toney taking up a roster spot?
  • I'm really trying to keep faith in Skyy to develop into a #1 but it's getting tough.
  • Mahomes was a bit off tonight.
  • The linebacker crew the coaches put together are outstanding. Great job!

- That Jets defense is legit
- Wilson played way above his head
- They got the higher amount of the awful calls (they went both ways tonight) going their way to keep them in it
- NONE of it mattered in the end because Patrick Lavon ****ing Mahomes II is the GOAT

Great recap as always, DC. Thanks for posting.

The heat should die down on Taylor, eventually.
He's our gadget guy. He's fine for what he is.
Skyy is never going to be a #1 receiver.
Mahomes was more than a little off tonight. He still engineered the final drive to win the game.
Can't wait to get Bolton back.

Pretty sad how not dropping punts is now considered a good job. Shows you how bad the prior returners were. I'm happy with him so far.

Pat had to rush 7 times tonight. Again. At his current rate, he's going to finish the season with more than 90 rushes. Assuming he doesn't get hurt.

Chiefs got up 17 and got lazy and the refs gave the Jets some hope and momentum. Then Zach Johnson had one drive to start the 3rd quarter that looked like he was Aaron Rodgers. Some amazing throws into really good coverage. I'm so sick of the complaints about the hold on Sauce. He lost MVS on the inside Release and grabbed him around the neck at 7 yards. It was a textbook NFL hold. **** the Jets, Mike Greenberg and the Bengals apologists Chris Collinsworth.

The holding penalty on the PM run for a first down was horse shit. The horsecollar tackle was an embarrassing call. For Saleh to then bitch about a legitimate D Hold is also embarrassing. Saleh - your team lost against the Chiefs on a day where they weren't bringing their best football. Drink some antifreeze.

It's more than that with Washington. He's in good position and he makes good decisions on whether to attempt the return. He also seems to go North and South with minimal cuts if he does choose to return.

Skyy never had a shot at being a #1, he'll be lucky to be 4th on the depth chart.

hopefully the league goes back to sleep on the OL and you can always count on Patrick to be really good when you need it the most ....the "are you not entertained" he did with raising his hands at the 2 yard line after sliding down to kill the clock was freaking hilarious.

agreed and when he does return it he seems to find the creases to get good positive yardage not just run into a group of tacklers.
