A Level Headed Review Week 4 2023

I'll preface this weeks review with the fact I was unable to watch the 3rd Q.

1. Isaiah Pacheco - his vision just keeps getting better and better. I have been waiting for him to break a long TD run. Seemed like he was always one defender or one juke away from breaking a long TD. We saw that tonight with an amazing lead block by Smith. 100+ yards on the night was really the workhorse of the game. I feel like he will be a 1200 back for us this year.

2. Patrick Mahomes - 2 Interceptions that just didn't make a whole lot of sense, the fumble on the snap 1st down was pure luck. But Patrick being Patrick puts the team on his back when it really counts and runs for 25 yards on 3rd and 23 and again on 3rd and 10 at the end of the game. Screw the score slide down and drain the clock. Love watching Patrick extend plays but I feel like the Jets played the back yard ball well tonight.

3. Defense - Not sure what happened but early on the Defense was dominating and as the game went on they seemed to regress until the 4th quarter. It was almost like maximum effort in the 1st and 4th Quarters and sleep walking in the 2nd and 3rd. Chiefs got lucky on some dropped TD passes and a missed FG. Wharton being Johnny on the spot with the fumble recovery really sealed the NYJ fate. Brian Cook had a nice open field tackle on the Hall run and Mike Edwards almost had a nice pick.

4. Offense- gotta clean up the holding, work on some red zone scoring - none of the WR's are getting open. Not sure what the problem is but our leading receivers were Kelce (60 yards), Pacheco (43 yards), Gray (34 yards), Rice (32 yards) and Toney (22 yards). This is unacceptable. MVS, Watson, and Moore all just disappeared in the passing game. There was no respect for our WR's they were playing man most of the night their secondary was keeping our WR's in check for the most part. I'll admit I had no idea that any offensive penalty in the End Zone was a Safety - I thought it was only holding - even thought the face mask was initiated outside the End Zone the refs decided to give the Safety anyway.

5. Washington again did a phenomenal job on punts. After the first game and last season it's nice to have some solid play at the PR position.

6. I'll need to rewatch the game but surprisingly no illegal formation calls. Not sure if that was our adjustment or the league got the message from Andy.

7. Mecole Hartman didn't get any receptions. Not sure how many snaps he played but he isn't really factoring into the NYJ Offense.

Yeah the Horse Collar tackle that wasn't a horse collar. Frustrating.

Wow. What an ugly game. Looked like the Jets wanted a brawl tonight.
Glad we got out with a win.

Glad we got out without a major injury. The Meadowlands is infamous for the injury monster jumping out of the turf.

Even with the struggles, they would have scored 30 if Andy wanted to run up the score on that sore loser Robert Saleh.

That said, if the mugging on MVS at the end of the game was a consistent strategy by the Jets throughout the entire game, they got away with a lot of stuff. NBC didn’t bother to show us what the coverage looked like on the non-penalized snaps.

You know something else I noticed but forgot to mention - I didn't see Ross at all out there. Wonder if he got any snaps tonight or if they are starting to tighten up the WR snaps to:

MVS
Rice
Toney
Moore
Watson

In that order.

I mentioned this in another thread. But that 48 yard Pacheco run brought back sweet memories of seeing another number 10 running away from defenders.

Mahomes and Kelce were not able to get in sync tonight like normal. Part of that is the Jets have a really good defense and they played really good.

Pacheco Should get the game ball. He really stepped up tonight

Even with his struggles Mahomes stepped up and made the game winning plays in the 4th. That's what Franchise QBs do

Jets fans can cry all week long about a hold being called a hold. But they will remain stuck with the L

Chris Jones is getting 1 sack per game, maybe he does end up with 15.

Khalil Mack had 6 sacks today against the Raiders!

Shit, man. That was NOT in this team's toolbox in 2022, 2021 or 2020.

If we have a guy doing that against good defenses, the sky is the limit for this offense.
