it's actually sourced to a report (of admittedly debatable veracity) from Florio in July that said Williams's camp had suggested it could pursue an ownership share from whatever team drafts him. Importantly, this allegedly happened prior to the NFL explicitly banning the practice.

It resurfaced because aggregating non-journalist Dov Kleiman inexplicably posted about it yesterday as if it was a new development or as if it wasn't something the league had already ruled against

And now because social media is awful and news literacy is nonexistent, you have other shit aggregator accounts piggybacking off Dov's post and people are blowing up over a months-old story about a guy's agency possibly asking for something in negotiations that were later ruled to be off limits. Grim news reality especially on X

Based on my very unofficial eye test, my prediction is that at the combine (unless he deems the combine to be beneath such a supreme being such as himself) he’ll come in somewhere between 5’11” and 6’.

A league wide % negotiated by the players union could be interesting at some point. Could provide some stability to retired players, which has been a black spot on the league for years. Maybe use this to balance states with low taxes like FL and TX, the % owned by players in those states would be less. Otherwise, contract salaries will get out of control.

Say 10% of the team is owned by the players and ex-players based on an algorithm designed around how often you played and the impact you made for the franchise. As % get smaller for the players over the years, the value of the franchises increase balancing the scale some, until eventually the players union negotiates a bigger stake.

The owners would never go for that. They would tell the NFLPA to start their own league and build their own stadiums. If the players strike it’s simply the next man up. After a few months of no game checks come fall, 90% of the players would be broke and cross the picket line.

Typically equity acquisitions are Cash in exchange for shares/equity percentage.

CBA dictates for rookies there is a scale and game checks. So each game, they withhold his check and exchange it on the balance sheet for equity (surely these are all corporations so we'll go with shares).

So each check, caleb gets some shares, but no cash. So after his rookie contract, he 41M of equity in whatever shit franchise is out there, let's say the Faid - they're giving shit away. Franchise is worth 6.2 Billion.
