Selling your memorabilia

Anyone gone through the process of having your stuff authenticated? I’ve got a SB IV team signed ball that came from my grandfather who was an ironworker during construction (which began in 68). I’ve also got a team signed ball that came from a golf tournament, which has unfortunately lost the tournament decal and I’m drawing a blank on the sponsor. Most notably, it’s got a Joe Delaney sig. where might one go to get such things authenticated?

Oh, I know. I’ve got a 91 team signed I’m not sure about. But I know these earlier ones are legit.

I want to hear the story behind how you acquired this ball only to have it be fake. Did it come with any (fake) authentication? Did you have any inkling that it may possibly be fake?

It's from the patriots, so it should have been obvious that someone was cheating.

I’m sure the PSA experts immediately deemed it fake when the ball showed up and wasn’t deflated.

Having something authenticated is not as easy as they make it appear on TV. Plus as a prior poster mentioned, it can be crazy expensive.

One of the key things that many people aren't told is that you need to supply every possible piece of supporting evidence to prove your case, just like in court.

1. Ticket stubs from game
2. Pictures of guys signing the item
3. Dates, times and other facts that could corroborate your facts.
4. Knowing every person who signed the item. This can be the difference in getting something validated when you have a specific person who signed your item be on the team in a very tiny time window.

The amount of fake merch is so high that you pretty much authenticate ot yourself and then they agree.

Many times you might get an incomplete validation as they are insure and can't prove it.

A buddy of mine has a huge baseball card collection and he had quotes of over $5,000 from the top two authenticating services to catalog and validate his collection..

It ain't cheap.

I’ve had the SB IV ball since 1980, and the amount of fade indicates it isn’t a fake. I’ll probably just keep the thing displayed.
