The Chiefs are discussing a contract extension with L'Jarius Sneed

Uhh, it can't just be me that thinks Jones MIGHT be starting that decline already, right? Absolutely awful game against the Broncos and the only impact he made against the Dolphins was that abysmally stupid penalty. Maybe the bye week gets him rested up and he's back to the shit****ing force we're used to.

That’s crazy that anyone can watch Sneed play and not see an elite player.

The guys has straight up shut down every elite WR he has faced and he has traveled with the opponents to WR every week.

Jones came back after 1 week because he saw the defense playing at a high level without him. The pass rush, specifically.

At this point, I think the best course of action is to extend Sneed for 3 years and tag/trade CJ95.

Big piece in the Championship game. Did nothing the other 2 games.

Part of it comes down to cost. I think that like Tyreek they had a number they wouldn't cross for Chris. I think this is turning the same way the Tyreek saga did. A "good" offer was extended but the player wants to chase a vastly overpaid player that can't justify his contract (Davante for Tyreek, AD for Chris).

This is just my opinion, but based on evidence I think 2 things are happening here:

1. Veach tried to get Chris down but he'a adamant that he wants $30 million year. Veach knows that isn't happening.
2. Veach has pivoted to Sneed, who is younger, cheaper and will help lessen the blow of losing Chris (elite coverage will help pass rush).

Also keep in mind that the only player Veach has paid that is over 30 is Kelce, but Kelce rocks and is on a very team friendly deal that's half of what Chris wants.

His cap hit is 27,000,000 this year so the idea that Veach won't pay 28 or 30 is not borne out by the contract he has.

To me the issue wasn't the cap hit. Veach was fine with paying his best defensive player market value. It was the length of the deal. Veach wanted shorter and Jones wanted more guarantees.

If Jones is willing to play for 2 years at a similar cap hit I think he stays.

You can afford to pay anyone anything if you're willing to deal with the consequences. The consequences of paying Jones a top of the market 3rd contract is that you probably can't pay Sneed and Bolton 2nd contracts. You think Bolton was an important person in the Super Bowl win?

I'd rather pay the young, still ascending players than be overpaying for past production with over 30 players.

It's called smart cap management. That doesn't make me a dinosaur, it means I understand consequences. You don't.

I understand that perfectly well. The fact that you think you are some genius that has some unique insight that you can't pay everyone just shows what an old reerun you are.

I agree but I don't think he wants that. That's the problem. Here's the reality: we have quite a few good players up for contracts the next 2 years.

2024-Danna, Gay, Chris, Sneed, Tranquill, Smith (great LT value).
2025-Creed, Trey, Reid, Omenihu, Bolton

That's some good talent walking out the door and I'm sure Veach wants to try to keep some of them. He knows he needs to replace them too and the best tool to do that is the draft.

Here's the problem with the draft: we only have 5 draft picks next Spring. That's the fewest we've had since 2002. That limits us from moving around for good players or drafting depth.

If Jones wants 4-5 more years he ain't getting that here.

But then if Jones is not coming back I am not interested in putting a lot more $$$ or investments in a D that won't have an elite pass-rush.

Just let Sneed go too, keep Bolton and focus on making the offense Elite again.

Think we can all agree on this. Veach letting both Sneed and Chris walk for no compensation other than comp picks would be a big failure on his part. Hope that doesn't happen.

No, I don't think I have some genius insight, it just seems that you're that stupid. So I keep trying to explain it to you. And you just don't seem to get it. I think most people here do. Lead a horse to water, I guess.

I kinda think Bolton was pretty integral to that Super Bowl win. If we win it this year, you can bet Sneed will be a big part. They're just entertaining their prime.

We've already paid Jones a second contract.

Top of the market deals on over 30 players isn't a good bet. I don't think I do it. If I was going to, I'd have done it last year. Now he's a year older.

Probably not.

I just explained why I would keep Jones. I have already said that we can't afford both Jones and Sneed and yet you persist in your stupid babbling.

Just say you don't want to pay Jones and stop with the "I understand the cap stuff" because you don't have any special insight. Maybe you are a "star" with the other dumbasses that have time for your old, blurry thoughts.

They’re not paying a guy 30 million a year over 30 years old.

They coulda don’t that last year, didn’t, so I don’t think much has changed

I dunno if it's the start of his decline, but I know for damn sure he hasn't showed he's worth what's hes wanting to be paid.
