The Chiefs are discussing a contract extension with L'Jarius Sneed

His value to a foolhardy GM looking to make a splash isn't the same as his actual value

He isn't worth $30 million a year and his time as an elite player is going away.

Aaron Donald is the perfect example. He was an elite ass kicker for years then in 2022 he declined. No surprise it's when he turned 31 and got that new contract.

He's healthy this year and is on pace for 9 sacks.

You're a fool if you think that's worth $30 million.

Because there isn't gonna be a GM to do that when they know the Chiefs aren't gonna keep him on the tag. Why would you bid against yourself instead of just letting him hit the market?

He's still kicking ass though. They don't have shit around him because they haven't drafted and traded all the picks to win a SB. Now it's time to pay the piper.

The Chiefs haven't done that and have cheap draft picks and free agents around him.

The Rams should have traded Donald at the deadline if they could have and rebuilt.

Donald was better than Chris by a decent margin. 5 years in a row of double-digit sacks while Chris only has 2 in his 7 year career.

You don't hold onto cap anchors when they start getting old. You sell them off and use them to get good young players from the draft.

This isn't complicated. There's a reason Veach didn't cave in to Chris Jones outrageous price tag

Because there's going to be more than 1 potential suitor? Why is this such a foreign concept for you. We see this same scenario play out yearly in the league. Worst case scenario we don't find a partner and have a very good player at market value for one last run.

"B-b-but he'll hold out" BWAHAHAHAHAHA, he and his agents have already exposed themselves as not willing to follow through when it's actually time for money to start disappearing.

Donald has been a 12 sack guy, with 1 20 sack year in there.

He's always got them in bunches, so is it such a stretch of him going from 9-12?

The time to have traded him, was last offseason if that's the route they wanted to go. You don't tag and trade 3rd contract defensive players.

If the value isn't there, it's not there.

Because they're not gonna pay the guy 32 million dollars in a single year.

We don't see tag and trades' for 3rd contract defensive players. I don't believe it's happened before.

I think you tag him, and you don't mess with the market. You dangle Jones out there for a 1st, and get immediate interest.

If any parties want to dress up that 1st with additional picks, take the deal and run. Otherwise, take the 1st. The Chiefs need offensive weapons, a left tackle, interior passrushers.

They tried keeping him at a fair price that was actually higher than his last contract. IIRC it was around $26 million APY that Nate Taylor reported.

This is just like Tyreek. Offer for what what the market said but one ****ing outlier from a stupid team makes these guys want the moon.

With The contract added on to it, they're not getting a first.

I'm skeptical anyone wants to trade anything of significance but I guess we'll find out.

Right. I'd imagine they want to keep him, but if that's what he's wanting, especially after last years spectacle situation, I would guess they may not wanna deal with any of it.

I'd take a 2nd and 4th.

Would also do a 1st rd pick swap and a 3rd.

Lots of options

No one is trading for him which is why tagging Jones is foolish. KC isn’t going to pay and teams know it. Even a remotely competent GM will call KC’s bluff on that one. Now Sneed is a strong possibility as KC could afford his cap number on a tag. He is still young, going on contract #2 and is versatile enough to cover #1 WRs or do anything else asked of him.
