We were not the better team.

Before you try convincing yourself we are, just stop. There was nothing surprising or unusual in how this game went. It’s the same all season. We have by far the worst position group of any on the field at a critical spot. As good as our defense is, the offense, and receivers specifically crush any advantages we could have. Most games we are still the better team despite the receiver issues, but against the top contenders, at this moment, we are not.

Tom Brady won 7 Super Bowls with rag tag groups of WRs. We have a good team. It has to be better than tonight but the pieces are there.

but honestly, we were the better team.

The 2 turnovers in the red zone and all of the drops. We pretty much outplayed them and should have won, it's one of those game where they don't make a couple of mistakes and they win instead.

I get all that. But none of these mistakes were surprising. That’s the point. Kelce fumble a bit surprising for who he is, but a red zone fumble this season is all too common. Mahomes INT too common. The way we ran and played defense we “should” have won but we didn’t because the issues we’ve had all season were once again abundant.

But of course the glaring receiver issues stand out and rightfully so. We can’t just hand wave those away though as they aren’t going to change this season and say “if they just played better…” it’s a huge part of our team given we are a passing team.

This is probably true. Doesn’t mean we were the better team tonight. The WR hole was so glaring that you can’t just pretend it’s not there when assessing who is better. We were better coached, better prepared, better QB, etc but against a team that is also pretty good the WR issues prevent us from being the better team when we don’t otherwise play perfect, and mostly play identical to who we’ve been for a while.

Most games don't have 2 red zone turnovers and 5+ drops in the same game. Yes, that combination of mistakes is surprising. It took all of those things happening in a single game for us to lose.

Despite the drops, a fairly officiated game and we win by double digits. Eagles held and committed DPI all game with no consequences. The NFL was not going to allow us to win that game no matter what. Move on and hope we have TayTay in attendance for the post season.

If you lose the turnover battle, drop a 100 passes, and commit many penalties, how are you the better team?

That's like saying the Eagles were the better team last year because they were leading at halftime.

I don't think there are any really good, let alone great, teams in the NFL. OL play is poor almost across the board as a result of years of spread offenses teaching finesse blocking techniques. Teams don't practice in full pads much due to safety concerns, and offseason and training camps have been pared down. As a result, execution of the basic fundamentals of the game is lacking.

However, because the league is now a bowl of mediocrity, there isn't a lot standing in the Chiefs' way. Yes, if they play like shit at the skill positions and have two turnovers in the red zone, they'll lose. So would anyone else.

It's not like they're facing a murderers' row. I mean, that coverage scheme Philly ran on 4th down was fireable, and they're 9-1. I wouldn't freak out much, because in parlance, even if you aren't what you were, if everyone else is blah you can still go a long way.

I mean, his Tampa WRs were near elite, and Edelman and Gronk were great, but your point is a good one.

We have Kelce. He is every bit as great as either of those guys. We don't have an Edelman, JuJu was probably the closest thing but I don't believe for a second that our guys are less talented than guys like Chris Hogan. We have multiple 1st/2nd round talents out there and they just aren't getting the job done.
