Zay Flowers

While Rice has been fine for a rookie 2nd round WR I just watch Zay Flowers and remember all the pre-draft smoke and think I wish Veach would have got a trade up done to grab him! What a talent!

Flowers looks to be a nice talent, no doubt, but we shouldn't discount Rice in the process.
This is true. Veach was trying to get both of them.

He’s really good. Like him a lot and think he might be a smidge better than Rice in this offense.

But still really loving Rice and think both guys have very high ceilings.

Tank Dell is looking like the bigger miss as he went in the 3rd. Happy enough with Rice, though.

Think it’s hard to say Tank Dell was a miss given his size. He’s just dramatically outperforming what guys like him have ever done in the NFL.

This.

I banged the table for Dell pretty hard in the draft section, but a guy with his size just isn't going in the 2nd round, especially after he didn't run in the 4.3s.

It has been confirmed Veach tried to trade up in the first round multiple times, a fair offer on the table. Nobody could stomach another McDuffie caliber player going to the Chiefs.

It has not been confirmed which player the Chiefs wanted. Felix was a consolation, but a solid one at that. (We've all seen George take a nice jump here in year two.)

Imagine if we took Rice in the fist and Dell in the 2nd and then for shits and giggles took Puca Nucua in the 5th! We'd be lighting it up on offense! But everybody passed on Dell and Nucua. The draft is kind of a crap shoot in a way. But overall, Veach has done a tremendous job of drafting.

I was looking at the history of our 2nd round picks under Andy Reid. 8 out of 11 were hits (Hardman and Thornhill did enough to be considered a hit imo, they contributed a good deal but aren't superstars).

Think I agree with this, but good coaches are getting some decent results with these midgets. I thought Tutu Atwell was the end of this experiment but they've even worked out how to use him. Fair play to Houston really.

I have watched this franchise take Dexter McCluster, Javier Arenas, William Bartee, Mike Cloud, Junior Siavii, Turk McBride, and Breeland Speaks in Round 2.

Hardman and Thornhill are absolutely hits.

Rice is a damn good talent, so this is a pointless what-if.

The one that Veach should be kicking himself over is Moore over Pickens. Reverse that pick and all our problems are solved.

Man - THANK you for that reminder.

I've kinda been beating a dead horse with some on picks like Hardman saying "Hey, he's not bad for a 2nd rounder, above average - 2nd round picks aren't great most of the time..."

But really, this is the best point to make in response to some of those complaints. God almighty the 2nd round was a shitshow for...god...15-20 years prior to Reid.

From about 1990 through Reid's first draft, we got, what, 5 real solid players? Maybe 2 genuinely good ones - Flowers and Hudson.

Since Reid got here we've gotten Morse, Jones, Gay, Creed, Bolton and Rice. Not to mention solid players like Hardman, Thornhill and probably Cook, who would've been grand slams compared to most of what we drafted in the 2nd for 20 friggen years.

Yeah - that's a real real real good point. The 2nd round was a house of horrors.
