Patrick Mahomes Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Didn't see this posted here

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the AFC "Offensive Player of the Week" on Wednesday after completing 27-of-34 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns in the Kansas City Chiefs' victory over Las Vegas last weekend.
Mahomes was instrumental in leading the Chiefs back from an early 14-point deficit on Sunday, completing 9-of-12 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown on Kansas City's back-to-back scoring drives after falling behind by two touchdowns. He then engineered a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive that put the Chiefs ahead early in the third quarter before throwing his second touchdown of the day – a 39-yard strike to wide receiver Rashee Rice – later in the contest.

This marks the 10th time that Mahomes has won AFC "Offensive Player of the Week" honors during his career, doing so at least once in each of the last six seasons.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will now aim to stay in the win column this weekend as the Chiefs travel to Green Bay for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Packers.

Yeah, I was yelling at the TV, but I guess they figured they'd get it on 4 shots at the endzone from the 1, so don't waste a challenge, but it was CLEARLY a touchdown, and a spectacular one at that. Ah well.

Yep.

Given our inability to pick up short yardage, I thought a challenge would have been well worth it.

In case anyone is wondering, Tom Brady has the most Player of the Week Awards with 40. Peyton Manning is second with 37.

Brady played 335 career games, so he won it every 8.35 weeks.
Manning played 266 career games, so he won it every 7.19 weeks.
Mahomes has played 91 career games, so he’s won it every 9.1 weeks.

Mahomes is slightly off pace here, but I think a lot has to do with this era. Seems like every week a QB throws for ridiculous numbers somewhere. Less so this year, but that’s happened a lot through Mahomes’s career.

And he won it off a game that has really become pedestrian by the standards he's set.

Past 2 games they've done a good job at using Pacheco in short yardage situations. I almost dropped a tear on a 3rd and 1 and a 2nd and 2 situation last week when we gave him the ball.

Short yardage has been a revelation lately.

Very encouraging. Keeping it simple works when you have talent.

It’s true. We bullied the Eagles in the trenches. I definitely did not expect that. Made me feel great about a potential rematch in the Super Bowl.

Plus it’s almost December. I suspected we’d get it figured out by season’s end and it’s starting to come together. We’ve still got some kinks to iron out but I have faith we’ll be better in January/February.

Last year he had no #1 WR and this year he had neither a #1 or #2 for most of the year.

Hopefully Rice down the stretch can a least be a NFL #2.

I have high hopes for Rice.

I think he’s going to be a guy in our receivers room for the next 7-8 years who ends up with like 7,500 career yards. Sorta like a Dwayne Bowe type career.
